Since updating to Windows 11 Pro v 22H2 (Build 22621.819), 'Search' on the taskbar has been replaced by a 'button'

where as before it was a 'magnifying glass' icon.

Does anyone know how to restore the 'magnifying glass' icon?

I'm also on 22621.819 and I don't have the "button" search on the Taskbar. I have just the magnifying glass.
I have my Taskbar set to small icons, and I have Cortana removed.

Then I have a few settings in Winaero Tweaker as well... that might relate...

Of the three items in the BIG red box, the top item ois set as shown, and the other two items are UN-checked.

And, as I mentioned, I have Cortana disabled...

I use TranslucentTB, and the only setting I changed was I added a check mark to run at Start.
I use RoundedTB to remove the tiny line remaining when using TranslucentTB.


That's all I can think of, that might affect the Search icon on the Taskbar.


My guess would be that removing Cortana did the trick.
MS probably tweaked Cortana to generate the new Search "button", and since I don't have Cortana...

It happened on both my machines as well but I am happy to leave well alone because MS will be introducing many more changes as they develop Windows 11 and trying to undo the changes is a hassle I can do without. It is also safer not to tinker too much with Windows I reckon.

I don't even understand why the Search button is even there beside the Start button when the Start button does the same thing when you search.

I just turned it off.

I have the new icon. I had it hidden as if I used it to search it would open results in Edge/Bing and I am a Googler. I just installed Edge Redirect and unhid it and it now opens searches in Google! However, I may still hide it as the Start Menu also has a search field, no need to have the button aswell. Wasn't really a huge issue as I also have Google pinned to the taskbar. No more Edge! Yay! It is just another click that leads to recent search history and other MS trending content. No need. I don't even use the Start Menu very often anyway. I have Google pinned to the taskbar and apps are desktop icons. I changed up some settings and simplified it a bit more.

I also have it turned off in Taskbar Settings, main advantage on a 14" Notebook is more room on the Taskbar for open programs' icons.

Plus, when you tap in the search field through the Start Menu it opens the other search optionlike when using the Search icon from the taskbar. The search button is extra and not needed, you get same result when selecting Start Menu and putting curser on the search box.

My taskbar has my most used apps pinned. I also don't need the Start menu very often.

Thats an option I don't need to see that. I rather open Start Menu where my apps are and when I click on search it opens the same screen as WIN+S. Easier to click on one icon than press two keys. Especially if in tablet touchscreen mode.
