Have an Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti and got flickr/artifact problem with newer driver.
Need to running an old driver to make it work.
Had an older thread and thought it was the psu at first.

Is there any security risk to use an old driver, for example 566.03. It's from 2024.

I think I will try upgade and test all drivers to try go get the newest working driver.

From time to time, NVIDIA will fix security holes in the graphics driver. As a practical viewpoint, it's less likely an attacker is looking at your driver version simply because everyone knows NVIDIA drivers constantly get replaced. If you have a list of known vulnerabilities to attack, either you're favoring an undisclosed and actively-abused security hole, or a recently revealed one.

Some older drivers (for other devices, i.e. printers) never get updated, so it's more likely a known hole will exist years later. But NVIDIA's drivers change frequently enough, it's not worth spending the time looking for a specific version to exploit. A malware writer isn't going for a low probability of success.

Those issues are Display Panel/Monitor, game syncing stuff, nothing to do with the driver version.

You need to address the game settings and monitor settings as regards to sync. Games vary a lot as to syncing settings so you have to experiment with each one individually.

There is no security risk that need concern you with older Drivers or Vbios firmware. Read the PDF notes from Nvidia for each version if you wish.
I use 546.30 which is fine.

Ok. But I never have any problem in games. Only when idle on desktop for example.

Still assembled, still runs. Haven't turned it on for 15 years?
As I said, the problem is not the driver. Install any version.

"Only when idle on desktop for example."

That should not be a problem, any driver will do.

Your description implies a game, not the Windows desktop.

If this is really the Windows desktop then you need to look at more basic stuff concerning your monitor refresh rate, syncing and so forth.

Hehe, ok. Never had any problem in games. It's only problem on Windows desktop / browser etc.

It's set to 165Hz - both in System > Display > Advanced display, and if I check in Nvidia control panel.

Changed max frame rate in Nvidia control panel to 163 FPS, also vertical sync to ON.
Should not G-sync sync those? Anyway I changed G-sync to enabled in windowed mode as well in nvidia control panel. Any other settings needed? I'm running with 1920x1080 resolution.
