You made a faulty assumption. Actually I did accept their advice on removing it. He posted a long list of options in another thread and the very first one was to do a local account installation. So that's what I did. The point of this thread is not to seek a way to remove OneDrive.

The point of this thread is exactly what it claims to be : to solicit opinions on the design of OneDrive. In my opinion it's a reckless design and in the other thread (that was linked from this thread) I elaborated on why that might be the case. If you're interested, you would have to go to that thread and scroll down to read about it.

This thread is Conspiracy Theory 101.

I can hardly take anyone who says "Microsoft" seriously. Really? Are we doing this in the big 26? I thought humans were supposed to progress as a species over time, not regress...

LIke i really care i used windows since 3.11 and now its slop a bloatslop.. half of stuff they put in no one uses it and its spyware.. they could rename windows to Palantir OS

Yes, it tedious when people don't read or mis-interpret. I'm being helpful by pointing out where their assumptions or understanding of what I said or did is wrong. I'm correcting the record. I wish I didn't have to do it.

And the opinion was/is to uninstall it. And if that offends, then you don't understand the dynamics of discussion forums such as this.

Actually I find it a bit incongruous that you've come back to the same forum for a second opinion because you don't like/believe what you were told in the first place ... bit like going to a medical specialist, not liking the diagnosis, then going back to the same practitioner for a second opinion ????

Absolutely! For the same reasons as I decided to choose the EU DMA option so I don't have to put up with that pile of garbage known as Edge any longer and also why I use O&O ShutUp! to disable all of the telemetry guff. It's made my PC a much nicer experience. It's called helping yourself. I don't use OneDrive by the way!

The/A computer is not the tool, OneDrive is ... and rightfully indefensibly blameworthy if a user is unable to control it

The entire point of OneDrive is to have a secondary copy of you file, and to keep things "synced" and available between different devices. If you updated a file on one computer, of course you want to see the same updated version of the file on a secondary computer. Same, if you created a new file on computer1, you would expect to see it on computer2. That's the whole point of SYNC. So, if you deleted a file on one computer, naturally i think you would expect it to be deleted on the 2nd computer.

In the example given, if you have computer 1 and you place files in C:\users\me\Documents, and then later add a second computer using the same Microsoft account, when you hit C:\users\me\Documents, you would see the same files from the other computer, but these would just be the stubs as the files haven't been physically downloaded to the second computer. If you delete the entire contents of C:\users\me\Documents from EITHER computer, it would be reflected on the other company. It will be SYNCED.

HOWEVER, all is not lost. If you did this by mistake, you can go into the cloud copy, and recover it from the Recycle Bin. It will be there for 30 days.


I don't see this as being scandalous, incorrect, odd, or anything of the sort. I'm not sure why anybody would actually think that OneDirve would work differently than this. I use OneDrive pretty extensively and it works exactly as I would expect it to. Things I want to be synced and available on multiple systems goes into OneDrive. I can access from my desktop, my laptop, my mac, my cell phone, my tablet, etc.

Also, as an advantage, oneDrive in the cloud has revision history. So, if you have a file that you change and accidentally save, but realize later you made a mistake and you want to get it back to the way it was, you have revision history in the cloud and can restore the file to a previous point in time. Then it syncs to all of your devices that use the same device.

Onedrive is great in my opinion. As long as you are comfortable with the data you put in the cloud. Things that are sensitive, should absolutely should be encrypted before ever being stored in the cloud. I just like the convenience of being able to get to all of my stuff from any device I have, no matter where I am. I'll take the risk of somebody at Microsoft looking at my notes about how I setup my Mac Mini and which commands I ran.

in my opinion, I Think OneDrive is a threat to privacy and should be treated as a threat and malicious as OneDrive have a tendency to mess up things.

The program is not perfect in my book. I want to add that the program is for all and stuff for all is not always perfect.
