I doubt many home users care about PowerShell v2, or need it. And if they do for some weirdo reason, the safer option is to move to 5.x or later. And it's not the method of restoring v2, but the fact that it's there at all, strawman. :)

Windows Update is offering the feature update to 25H2? If so, when you click 'ok' it will download and install the Enablement Package. It installs like a cumulative update, takes very little time - it's just a small update. It will show in Update history as a Feature Update. Once installed you could remove it, if you really wanted to.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven below to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB NVMe ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro.

@Bree, still no "enablement package" appeared. It just went straight into 25H2

I'm the one who mentioned how to install PS v2, and I didn't say anything about Group Policy editor, nor whether it's good or bad to use any particular method to restore functionality.

I realize for others it's not so easy. Maybe that comes from the advantage that this is a Surface Pro machine that Microsoft currently favors.

Well that was the shortest time being on 24H2 ---> about 4 hours. 😎

I realize some of you all have struggled with it for months. I'm not trying to sound smug here, but I'm glad I avoided that.

Now I have to see about doing the same thing to that new Dell machine I recently purchased.

Really? For months I've been reading here (and in other places) about many people's struggles with 24H2 and that's why I avoided upgrading to it until now. I didn't want to become one of Microsoft's many beta testers. They aren't paying me to do that.

If that's the case then Microsoft didn't make it that easy for them to avoid doing that. I blame not only some of the end users but also Microsoft as well.

Using Gibson's InControl helped me out a great deal on that.

No it's because some of the overly eager 25H2 fanboys jumped on early news of the EP becoming available. And didn't realize MS released two versions, one intended for folks on Insider builds and one for normal Windows. Functionally they're identical, but the EP ends up reporting a different Windows branch than expected.
