I have noticed that sometimes the "SIhost.exe" is running for long periods of time and consumes about 12% to 14% of my CPU. If I shutdown and restart it doesn't start again when I reboot. I have already verified that it is a genuine MS file, so it's not malware from what I can establish. Anyone know why this is happening. It doesn't cause a problem, other than to annoy me.

The information on that linked page is manifestly incorrect, for instance, the claims that "The file sihost.exe is located in a subfolder of the user's profile folder", "The program has a visible window.", "It is not a Windows system file.", "It is a file with no information about its developer.", etc.
The statements in the website are claiming that if any of the following exist, the file is suspect, see quote below;

How to recognize suspicious variants?

You can uninstall this program in the Control Panel. The program has no visible window. Sihost.exe is digitally signed. It can change the behavior of other programs or manipulate other programs. The process is a hidden stealth process. Sihost.exe is able to monitor applications and manipulate other programs.
    Uninstalling this variant: If you experience any issues with installation of sihost.exe, you may want to contact www.searchinform.ru to assist you or remove the entire program MSXML using Windows Control Panel.

  • If sihost.exe is located in a subfolder of C:\Windows, the security rating is 16% dangerous. The file size is 106,496 bytes.
I am not truly concerned about the validity of the file, just curious about why it is running for prolonged periods of time. Nothing in my web search turned up any explanation. I had seen the same site referenced by "The-Hive" in his post, but as I stated it didn't provide any explanation for why the file is running for prolonged periods of time.
