Solved skip microsoft account after a update?

I can only find how to skip microsoft account on new install of windows but i keep getting it after a win 11 update you can cancel it but then it comes back in 3 days.

I'm on 24H2 build 26100.3775

I have never heard of an update causing such.
Are you sure it's not asking you to login to onedrive? Or Office 365?
Check to see what kind of account you use via Settings Click on Accounts from the left-hand menu. Under the Your info section, you'll see your account type. If it says Local account, you are signed in with a local account. If it shows your email address (e.g., [email protected]), you are signed in with a Microsoft account

I think the escape is "click on "back " " or whatever it is, and then you will be offered "skip" or something like that. It is not obvious.

System > Notifications > Additional settings.

It's the first one 'Show the Windows welcome experience after updates and when signed in to show what's new and suggested' that kicks in after every update and tries to force an MS account onto you. By default they are all turned on, turn them all off....

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

They where all checked. They really tried to hide that setting.

The justification is after a Feature update, like to a new Windows release or what MS terms a "Moment" (milestone), Windows could stop and introduce "What's New" to the user. Unfortunately, it tends to trigger after a bunch of normal updates and becomes a nuisance.

Most of the new features they show are directly related to online services like OneDrive or O365. All of which require a Microsoft Account to participate in.

So that's why it keeps nagging you to sign up for one.

An MS account unlocks features like OneDrive, but it's not necessary to switch your Windows sign-in from a local account to an MS account to use them. You can add a Microsoft account to your local account for other apps to use, as I have done.
