So. What's the answer? I have had this problem for months now. What is confusing. Is that I bought this new PC with W11. At first, the snipping tool did just as it did with W10. And then, one day, it didn't. And hasn't worked since. I have no idea where the image goes after I snip it. I don't see an answer anywhere that works.
Can anyone help?

If the settings are set to auto save, the image most likely goes into a folder in your Pictures folder. It is usually called “Screenshots”
The snip (or screenshot) will be organized with the filename starting with the name "Screenshot then date" that it was taken.

@PennsyNut It's odd that mine seems to behave differently. If I take a screenshot, it opens at the bottom for about 5 seconds to see if I want to do something with it. I don't know what I have done that you haven't?

So. What's the answer? I
I do not use the printscreen key. I have snipping tool pinned to my taskbar, I click it, take a snip, click taskbar icon again, I have option of saving it. It irked me at first but I'm so accustomed to it now, it doesn't anymore. With no more snips than I take one more click doesn't matter in the big scheme of things. We either deal with it until MS changes it or use a third party snipping tool.

I do not use the printscreen key.

I use it a lot. Either to capture my whole screen...

Or use Alt+Print Screen to capture an active window

Using the print screen button, you can select the type of capture as soon as you hit the button, too, so no need for another shortcut. That is how I do it.

But both ways work perfectly fine, so if you like having both set to a shortcut, that's cool too. Microsoft has given us several ways to use the ST.

If only it didn't fall behind everything after a capture, which behavior only started on Windows 11 after 22H2's release.

(y)

Yup..., I'll do that with WinKey+PrtScr if I need to save it..., but, 99% of the time that I take a capture, it's to share it here on the forums, then I trash it.

Mine is connected directly to PrtScreen. I trend to keep the screenshots as, especially the ones I mark up, they can always be re-shared later elsewhere.

OneDrive, from a Microsoft 365 Family account, so it's not like I ain't got the space lol.

From all the above suggestions. I did not get that little window down in the lower right corner, I got nothing. I would capture the image and as soon as I did that, it disappeared. When I was able to see the image, and tried saving, it went to a window that saved it as a video/mp4. That was totally useless. When I finally located the clipboard, it was so small I couldn't even see what was saved. So apparently my clipboard is useless on my PC.
So to update. I contacted Microsoft and they offered to go into my PC and find the solution. That's against my wishes. I don't want anyone into my PC. So, they suggested to uninstall ST and re-install from the M Store. I did all that. And now, I put the icon in the taskbar. Click it, scan and save the images. Click that icon again, and there it is. To save wherever I want. A folder labeled Pictures is always available, so a sub folder in that is fine for me.

    …still on a horse.
antspants: Short answer. NO. The "notifications" is blank. I do not get anything "in the lower right corner". That part of the ST simply does not work anymore. MS did updates and that ruined the old way that ST worked. It works entirely different now.
As for the "Print Screen". That opens the ST. I see there's a way to reverse that to the clipboard. But as I have now found out. My clipboard is useless. It come up as a tiny window that I can't make larger. So it's not visible. It's far too tiny to see what it is. All I can tell is that it is what I scanned in ST. But unreadable.
So, leaving the print screen the way it is is OK with me. Now that I figured it out.
As I said. It's OK now and I can save my ST images. That's all that matters now.
It's just a shame that MS has to fix things that were working. "Why fix it when it works". DUH!

And that requires getting more stuff on the PC. Why? If it were like Adobe Reader that you can uninstall and get Foxit for a pdf reader, it would be OK. But if it's like Edge; that you can't get rid of. You uninstall Edge and the next time you update, Edge comes right back on. So we keep Edge as a back up. You can't install Firefox or Chrome if you don't have any browser, so Edge is there permanently.
I'm constantly looking for ways to reduce the "stuff" that we accumulate on our PC's. Way too much excess. Way too many duplicates of files. Look at how many ways to view "Documents". On my new PC, there's 4 different ways to view "Documents". WHY? Just a waste of space.

... Just a waste of space.
Most machines these days have ample space and horsepower!
I'd rather waste space than waste time trying to figure out why MS Apps are so fubar!
Wasted space is salvageable, wasted time is not!

Edwin. I agree about time. But why does MS have 4 different ways to open the Documents? Why does it have multiple ways to do a lot of things? That isn't just a waste of space, it's a nuisance. For example. I have 4 different places to open Pictures. But they are not the same? You figure that out? 2 of the Pictures are the same. Another is not, it's from ST. So why when I save the ST to Pictures, does it create it's own Pictures? This simply don't make sense to me. So I then have to get the picture/image I just saved from ST and transfer it to the other picture file. That is a waste of time, and also simply stupid.
