Snooker Glasses

Has anybody here experience of snooker glasses designed so you can see the ball correctly when looking down the cue rather than looking through normal specs at a non optimum angle?

No they are definitely not scams - many top snooker stars wear them - the most legendary being Dennis Taylor. They differ from nomal specs in that the frames finish above your eyebrow so you do not look over top of frame when bending down to take a shot. Also the main eye focal point is higher. aa well.


They are normally very pricey but a reputable firm I deal with are doing a special offer, so I wondered about buying a pair and if anybody had used them.

I've worn glasses for 60 years. I also played pool (well), for 20 or so of those years.
Snooker glasses have one thing in common with any good scam... the "sound" like a good idea.

Any decent regular pair of glasses will give you all the vertical range necessary.
Now if you wear those glasses with teeny lenses, and situate them all the way down you nose, then you may have issues with pool.
But that doesn't mean you need snooker glasses, it just means you need decent glasses, worn where they're supposed to be worn.

I just don't want to see you get ripped off when "snooker glasses" don't make you the world's greatest pool shot. ^^

I am a fairly proficient pool player playing in top local league and I wear glasses my whole life as well. However, even then I sometimes have difficulty with the focal point being in wrong position.

This was particularly evident before my cataract operations when my lenses were jam jars (-7,-8 dioptres) and used smaller frames to keep weight down (and not look so jam jar like even with high index lenses). Also, at wrong angle, you get a lot of chromatic aberration (prism effect) which is distracting.

Since my cataract operations, I only need modest lenses for distance (-2 dioptres) and get much less chromatic aberration as well.

I do not even need glasses anymore for reading or intermediate reading (pcs at arms length).

Unfortunately a pool or snooker table is just too long, that I need to wear glasses. However, even then the focal point is just not in a perfect position. It is not just vertical range (I have that covered) but where the focal point is on the vertical range.

In fact, for close shots, I sometimes remove my glasses.

I guess the real answer is to use contact lenses but never really bothered with them.

Of course, I doubt it will make me a better player . Perhaps I will just buy them anyway as a fashion statement to just look cool (or stupid?) LOL.
