I was the middle of trying the next step but I don't see it anymore @glasskuter

Sorry, I deleted it and started over after you posted the screenshot. Here it is again as originally written and I'll just write another in response to your screenshot.

Thank you for trying that. You can now disable the administrator account by opening command prompt as admin and type net user administrator /active:no

While you have the command prompt open just to make sure all bases have been covered, type sfc /scannow It will scan your system files for corruption. After it completes pay attention to its result to see if it found corruption and was able to fix it.

Using the other account pretty well proves it is a windows problem. A repair install should fix WU, but you stated you had already done a system reset which should also have fixed it.

If or when you decide to deal with it you can attempt it but at this point I can only attest to one thing 100% that will fix it and that's a clean install since you start completely clean. Maybe someone else here will see it differently than I do. Sorry nothing I suggested worked for you.

Done. At least now I know I can re-enable it in case I need to test things again.

I had a strong hunch. I repair install keeps my files but removes install programs (Like adobe software, with license keys etc.)?
See—I first installed Windows 10 in 2021 when this PC was built and before windows 11. So when Win11 rolled out, everything done on Windows 10 carried over to Windows 11. I guess I fully fixed the managed y organization issue, but I will note that I used (here it comes) O&O Shutup10++ to "disable" those privacy supposed settings.
I'm guessing that program tore modified some registry entries to do what it does'?

I attempt to reset that all too, by using the restore point and confirming it's reset.
But. This problem:

something didn't go as planned. no need to worry-undoing changes.

...
Update failed—Retry?

is on the Windows Update side. I'm guessing the cumulative update Windows needs installed is the one that will bring me to the current OS build:

22621.2134

While I'm still on:

22621.2070

That screenshot shows that updates have been being applied regularly since 8/3 which was the date you posted in your other thread that Brink's suggestion fixed WU for you so it no longer appears to be a problem with the WU process. If it's only a cumulative where you get the error, it must be KB5029263 released 8/8. Have you tried disabling any third party anti-virus (including Malwarebytes.) Make sure no processes are running in task manager. Do you get the same error then? Some people have gone so far as to uninstall MWB altogether for this reason. I keep mine but always turn it off before update Tuesday.

The Update Stack Package?

Yes, it's this cumulative update, or pretty much any update that requires a restart.
my computers -> specs tab: No antivirus
I would never install such a thing. Defender is enough for me, and I'm well aware to to catch fishy/sneaky things, and avoid them all like the plague. Pretty tech savvy all around.

I'm guessing the
"Fix problems with windows update"

Only appears on OS build 22621.2134? The cumulative update I'm missing is this one?

i.e. Is that update only for users currently on OS build 22621.2134? Is that why it is returning the "something didn't go as planned. no need to worry-undoing changes." error? Because I'm not specifically on that build version?

Kb5029263 is the update that takes you TO 2134.
That's what I thought. So when I found the there is that had the update in MSU format (i usually did that method back on windows 7 whenever WU had problems) and it still didnt work.

I'm trying the article right now, for step 2 and still no luck. I'm sure now, the only way to fix this is to wipe it entirely.
Having to wipe the PC will erase all license keys I have activated from software most of which are old and I no longer those keys when everything is wiped cleaned entirely.

It's not a matter of my files because I keep work files on external sources—it's about losing registered/license keys from software I work with.

UPDATE:
I've got all my soft license keys back, and prepared my PC for a full complete clean, wipe and reinstall.
Will report back afterwards, shouldn't be too long now.

Note:
I did use 'StartAllBack' to get a classic like menu back. I don't know how this affects the Start menu, but when I rest everything I don't want any more of these if its problematic.
I point it out, because when I enabled the hidden Admin account, the Start Menu is broken error message kept appearing. I could not use the default start menu anymore.

So even though I like the classic menu StartAllBack did, I don't know if it breaks anything, so if anyone as any info/insight, much appreciated.

Resetting now.

3rd party apps that alter the GUI are a mixed bag. MOST times, as long as one keeps that app updated, they're fine.....until they're not. Then they can drive one stark raving mad trying to chase down weird, irksome issues. Many, many users here use them as they feel the advantages these apps provide outweigh any problem they can cause. I did, too when I first got 11 but haven't for a long time now.

My advise to anyone who uses these apps is, if strange stuff starts happening graphically ( taskbar, menus, icons, explorer, etc) look at the third party app being the problem before anything else. Uninstall it and restart before troubleshooting these kinds of issues as being a windows problem. This is especially true in cases where a windows update that affects Microsoft's GUI (and most updates do in one way or the other) is released but the app developer hasn't updated their app accordingly.

Yeah I saw one glitch on pop-up description window when drag/copying files.
Main thing I noticed was the start menu being broken and unusable unless i enabled StartAllBack. I doubt I'd reinstall it. I've had a great deal with this system and trying to get it freshly reset I don't want to re-introduce those same problems at all.

(see other thread).

I don't want to re-introduce those same problems at all.
This is why I use Open-Shell (with the Windows 7 Start Menu style choice and with Classic Explorer) alongside ExplorerPatcher alongside some of the options of Winaero Tweaker and of Ultimate Windows Tweaker. Of course I still keep my backup image of my Windows partition just in case, but I never actually needed to restore from it.
