AP Chrysocolla (Custom OS)
so after getting this part of the not very nice Windows 11 policy error, I get some updates finally and of course more problems arise.
Anytime the cumulative update install and restarts, this message always appear. Now how do I fix this?

For the 1329th time.... "TURN OFF MS UPDATES"!!!
I never have update problems, like so many do, because I keep that SOB turned OFF!
Try it, you'll like it!
Running "StopUpdates10.exe" makes the job a piece of cake.

Cheers Mate!

Respectfully, I must disagree with @TechnoMage2021. IMO turning off updates is not a recommended solution. It's only a coverup for the problem. Windows update works fine for the majority of us so this issue is specific to your machine. Windows is rapidly changing and updates are the only way our machines can remain current in those changes as well as receive all the security updates MS releases.

Please indicate what version of Windows 11 you are using. Are you running an insider build?

Looking at your other thread, this is the flow of events as I see it. Please correct me if I am wrong.
1. original error was "error encountered"
2. Per Brink's instruction you reset Windows Update and it resolved that problem.
3. you then received "organization prevents sending diagnostic data to MS which means you won't get Insider builds" as well as "Managed by your organization"
4. you then stated you fixed the messages for #3 though you didn't say how you did it.
5. Now in this new thread you say the messages come back with each new cumulative

You indicated in the other thread you re-installed windows. In this thread you say you "already reset pc". These are NOT the same thing if your chose to reset PC and keep your data.
Unless you reset and remove everything, your user account remains intact, thereby keeping any "erroneous" registry entries or tweaks such as 'managed by organization' limiting that user account.

I suggest temporarily enabling the hidden administrator account to do your testing. If everything works as it should using that account, this points directly to a corrupt user account or tweaks you've made being the issue.
Open command prompt as administrator type net user administrator /active:yes (note the space)
Note: If you can't enable this hidden account from your current account that is further indication your current user account is limited by changes you have made or corruption.

Once the hidden account is enabled, restart and login to that account. Windows will build its desktop and you will choose your basic settings. Turn off any third party AV, including Malwarebytes and make sure no background processes are running for them.

Try windows update. Does it work?
If not, just to make sure, Reset Windows update again from this account using Brink's instruction in your other post and try Windows update again..

Please report back with the results for further instruction.

I don't have that option.
(snip)

at htis rate i'm sure it'll just stay in this broken stasis forever. i do not have the time to reinstall all work programs and data

Did you read and understand the tutorial?

Short version:

Download an ISO of Windows. One easy way is to use the Media Creation Tool. (Choose the option to create an ISO, rather than making a bootable USB drive.)

Double click on the downloaded ISO. It's mount as a virtual DVD.

Run Setup.

At the appropriate point, choose to keep data and programs. It's not guaranteed that every program will run properly after the repair, but most, or all, should.

If you're using an ISO that corresponds exactly to you current Windows version, that gives an upgrade-in-place, also known as a repair install. Otherwise, you get an upgrade. (It can also be used to do a downgrade.)

You'll have a windows.old folder created on C:. That's there to allow you to revert to the prior version, if needed. It will be automatically deleted after a while (10 days, I believe). It can be gotten rid of immediately using the disk cleanup utility, if you select the option to clean up system files.

yes i read it, I've just stopped trying because this the same thing with Windows no matter what, there's never a solid solution when it comes to this OS. This PC for the work i do on it will just never be updated; as I said I don't have time to keep dealing with this issue ever time. I'll keep using my mac instead.

I'm not at all sure that a repair install would have helped. But it usually does no harm.

Another poster suggested it as a possible fix. It seemed that you didn't understand how to do it.

It's possible that the good people here may get a little annoyed by someone who asks for help, and then is unwilling to accept any.

I suggested a repair install in relationship to fixing windows update before I went back to your other post trying to put everything in perspective of what you had previously done. Once I put everything in order, it was evident you were dealing with more than Windows update not working. The "Managed by organization" errors were also there. I wanted you to PROVE where the problem lay and gave the best advice I could to do that.

You came here seeking help. It seems you didn't even attempt to see if windows update would work from the administrator account to prove that this entire issue was not a Windows problem but a problem with your account. Account problems most times are caused by the user themselves.
If your acount is corrupted even a repair install won't help. That's why I asked you to do the testing and report back so I could tell you how to create another account that was not corrupted. But you never did, nor did you answer the questions I asked about what version of Windows you were running.
there's never a solid solution when it comes to this OS.
I'm sorry you are unhappy with Windows 11. Most here would disagree with you. I have found it to be a solid running OS. Stuff happens in any OS. When it does, it's up to the user to determine where the problem lies and that can't be done without testing. The solution is not always a click here, click there, and it's magically fixed. It would be great if it was that easy every time..

If you choose not to take the time to deal with the problem, it's your system, your choice. You have a nice system there. It would be a shame for it to not run at 100% condition. Had you had a backup image made before the issue started you could have used it to recover.

The command has to be typed running command prompt as administrator
resulting in seeing command prompt like this. If Windows is registered with a digital license, when re-installing windows no product key is required

.
I had asked before what version of windows you were running with no answer. Have you made any changes using Group Policy (if Pro) or Regedit changes (if Home or Pro) that would override your account settings. That could account for the "managed by organization" messages you have been seeing.
Also if somehow your user account has not been granted full administrative priviledges, that could cause it. You can check that by going to settings>accounts Under your user name it will say if you are an administrator or not.

I put the version of windows in the op: Windows 22H2 22621.2070 (no insider)

of course i'm the admin on the account. i'm the only user on the PC.

Yes, I had made changes to the Group Police, because windows updates always had problems and it interrupted my work, to which I reset it all back to default to try and fix this lingering issue. I already fixed the managed by organization. This problems lies with windows update always saying the thread title:

something didn't go as planned. no need to worry-undoing changes.

no error codes, no nothing. just this same thing. for that damn cumulative update for windows 11

I'm doing this now.

No of course it didn't work.
It still says

something didn't go as planned. no need to worry-undoing changes.

even under the hidden admin account.
If not, just to make sure, Reset Windows update again from this account using Brink's instruction in your other post and try Windows update again..
Could not do this under the hidden admin account because the option:
"Fix problems with windows update"

is not there at all.

"TURN OFF MS UPDATES"!!!
That's your personal preference. Not an SOP.
If updates are creating issues, something is wrong that needs to be fixed. And that's exactly why I create my backup images. To make things easier when problems arise.
