Something happens when started OneCommander for the first time

Hi!

I just installed OneCommander (alternative file explorer) downloaded from Windows app store on Windows 11 (24H2)

When I started it for the first time a CMD window opens and recommended me to install Powershell for Linux becuse it was missing on my computer. I thought it was needed to be installed to have Onecommander to work.

I run the command wsl.exe --install as recommended and saw it also install ubuntu in the background. Can any explain for what just happand here?

When I search for "wsl" on my computer I can now see an icon, please see attached screen dump. should I be worried?

I just installed One Commander on Win11 23H2 Build 22631.4169 RTM, not Insider Preview 24H2, no problems.

I searched for wsl.exe and found that it belongs to Microsoft. However, it seemed strange to me that the command window appeared exactly at the same time I started OneCommander.

So you just went ahead and installed it without knowing why?

Jump on Google Groups and post a question? It’s probably needed as apparently you can write scripts for OneCommander

i had problems with onercommander pro it wouldn't update and wouldn't uninstall.
so i reinstalled the whole system from backup .. onecommander wont be back on my system.

I did a reset of the computer from a backup. I won't install OneCommader again.

I used the portable exe version.
Powerful software but way to convoluted! The UI is a mess!
Powerful is great but it's gotta be clean, and similar to Explorer.

There's several File Explorer alternatives, one I use a lot is Total Commander. Might look in www.majorgeeks.com and their utilities for others.

I've tried OneCommander, Total Commander, Q-Dir, and others..., I find them all overkill!

Been there, done that!

I just want simple, clean and powerful.
(QTTabBar is powerful enough for me..., granted, those other apps have tons of unique features, but, I don't need them.)

And, the UI should represent classic Explorer...

I like Total Commander for its flexibility in bulk renaming files. (Becomes really handy when you have a couple of dozens of scanned receipts that need to have date, place, and client in the file name!) But, it IS overkill.

The thing with overkill is, someone needs to make that kill, and it's built for them. And what I need to kill is (obviously) different from what you might....

I use Directory Opus (DOPUS), definitely overkill but it is excellent.
Not cheap but worth the money. There is a free version also.

I've been using the free version of OneCommander for a few months now and really like it. It is now my #1 File Manager program. The Files app from the MS store is my second choice. I gave up on File Explorer because it keeps changing the view setting from the Detail setting to the Large Icon setting.

There's plenty of alternatives - free ones too: https://alternativeto.net/software/bitcommander/

As an alternative for TotalCommander - i used FreeCommander for quite some time, but latter i found DoubleCommander - which i like more (for its simplistic approach). If not into into Double Windows (TC Style) - there's plenty of others to chose from (some are rather old - but there's also newer additions).
