Hi,

Win11 Pro 22H2 OS Build 22621.755

In the last couple of days I've noticed issues with my audio.

I've got Youtube playing in Chrome, all sounds good until another sound plays on the PC. Then the music from YouTube is muted while the other sound is played.

I can replicate this very easily. Youtube playing, open VLC and select a music file. The music file plays and YouTube is muted. This never used to happen.

I've gone into settings, System, Sound, More Sound Settings.
Selected speakers and gone to Advanced. I;ve unticked

'Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device' and ' Give exclusive mode applications priority'.

I've saved this but it hasn't helped. Rebooting the PC hasn't helped.
My sound card is a Realtek on board audio.

Anything else I can check ?

Thanks

I just tried this myself with YouTube and VLC, get sound from both which to me is very annoying, lol.

Someone here will have some ideas.

Edit: could it be a browser setting?

Change one of them to another format such as a .Wav or an .MP3.

Maybe a browser bug? Try playing YouTube from Microsoft Edge and see if this happens there. If it happens only in Chrome it may be some hidden advanced setting controling audio. I don't know what to look for.

I've spent some time this morning looking at this and it happens in Edge, Firefox and Chrome.

However I've change the play rate use by the speakers and microphone and now it seems to be working. I'm not sure why so I'm going to test again later.

Thanks

I never use the maximum rate (96KHz or 192KHz) supported by my card because this needs the card dedicated to a single application. I configure it to DVD quality, 48KHz, 16-bit, stereo and never had any issue. You will hardly tell the difference, unless you are connected to a good quality Hi-Fi system.
