Sound personalization impossible

I wanted to change some of the default sounds to those from Windows 10 which I have stored on my D: partition. Using preview mode in Explorer, I can hear the exact sounds I want but when browsing to the sound via the sounds control panel, the Win 11 default sounds always play, despite the sound selected being on the D: partition instead of the C:\Windows\Media directory.

Additionally, the sounds control panel contains no option for Windows shutdown.

Does anyone have a solution to this, please?

How can I change the default sounds?

Hi, It is claimed that selecting Personalize > Themes > Sounds allows you to replace the default sounds with another .wav sound. It doesn't. As I am unhappy with the changes made by MS to the Win 10 sound scheme, I took ownership of the Windows/Media folder and then copied the sounds across...

A Windows update overwrote my sounds. It just will not permit users to personalize their sounds, login screen, and who knows what else...

I've never had an issue.

Sometimes, some settings need to be re-aplied for whatever reason. I have no idea what version you're using, but I have Build 23H2. I don't like 24H2

Indeed, everyone using 23H2 has no problems. I am using 24H2 which is what was downloaded when I decided to change over from Win 10. 24H2 is either extremely buggy or MS has done this on purpose to remove control from users.

For me, my computer (2014) became so sluggish it was almost horrifying.

Interesting you should say that. I'm running a rather fast 2021 Alienware which was always rapid under Win 10, but I have noticed it sometimes takes ages to do something since updating to Win 11. In particular, file moving is horrific when transferring to 2 different drives simultaneously.
