Speed up backups by turning off compression


I use compression for backups of my system drive and my drives with various file types. For my drives with multimedia files on the other hand I turn compression off as these audio and video files are already highly compressed and Macrium Reflect is not able to compress them even more.

I have a known hardware issue and I experience overheating with Macrium (and only Macrium) so I run it at lowest priority and default compression. It's only at this setting that I can maintain safe temps and complete an image without the machine shutting down. Just today I could backup and verify 72 gb of data in 3 min 18 secs. which is perfectly acceptable for me. I mean, we' re talking mere seconds here so IMO it's neglible

@glasskuter Maybe start a new thread for the Dell users who may like to know about such an issue. I also have a Dell (Inspiron) and haven't noticed a heating issue running Macrium (version 8 free) but would like to be aware. Just a suggestion. :-)

A lot of simmilar heating issues, especially for laptops, is blocked airflow... it happens all the time. Those air channels need to be vacuumed out often to keep this from happening.

With Macrium at High priority, my system runs too hot @95c so I use Lowest priority for about @65c. About 2.5 minutes for 300gb.

Interesting. I stopped using compression ages ago. I always (well, almost always) take that little check mark out on my drives whenever I see it. Then again, I have a considerable amount of personal storage. I just sort of feel that the more the original data is re-processed, modified, or altered the more the risk of corruption is increased. Evidently I'm indulging in a little extravagance here and I'm compelled to say that it feels good. :-)
