Greetings & Salutations!

Hello,
@Brink ::

I hope this discussion can become a "sticky" here, I found these articles informative... šŸ‘

As technology keeps changing we always keep learning....

(Please, do not let the new member status here on ElevenForums fool you. I have been a member of the SevenForums & TenForums for years, under the same username.)

I found some articles on the web that helped me answer my questions I had about SSDs & SSD storage devices ("flashsticks"). I got some answers here, but I wanted to know a more in-depth answer than what I got from here & so I thought I would share my findings here & in hopes others would benefit, too.

This article, entitled, "SSD vs. HDD : Know the Difference", is from within the webpages of Crucial's Articles' section & I found extremely informative & intuitive; I hope you do, too.
These articles also explains why & how Trim & Active Garbage Collection play key rolls in the speed of the SSD.

This article is on the NVMe protocol & its design to support SSD's higher speed memory over the older SCSI & SATA drives. (Cisco Article: "What Is NVMe?")

These articles go into depth, in plain english terminologies. Although, I can understand a lot of techno-babble; some of us can't, I can understand where they are comming from when I explain all things "computer" to my family members.

Cheers!

I think that Crucial article is a little out dated stating that the highest capacity HDD is 10TB. As of last month, the highest capacity HDD as far as I know id 32TB

You can buy yourself (loose change) an EDDCT 100TB SSD which retails for $40,000
Sure, it’s a data center drive but still

For the home/pro user, The Samsung T5 EVO portable SSD 8TB external SSD
You can get 8TB NVMe’s for laptops

The list goes on. And yes in my opinion it makes a difference. Technology advances. That crucial article was updated in September 24 and they still listed HDD/SDD at 10TB & 4TB

I suppose they got the basics in there. Hardly sticky material.

Sure. šŸ˜‰ I like to help out when I can. Have always been an outside-the-box thinker. I was never into programming always have been a "hardware guy" but could never really afford the "good stuff". Since SanDisk's introduction of the SSD back in 1991 ( wow! 😮 -- 24 years ago!) I could barely afford a high capacity HDD!

BTW, I forgot to add this article about the differences between Understanding M.2, SATA, PCIe and NVMe SSDs...
I think that Crucial article is a little out dated stating that the highest capacity HDD is 10TB. As of last month, the highest capacity HDD as far as I know id 32TB

Understood. I know it was a little outdated, but for someone who is a newbie to all of the transitions SSDs have come even since 2012. These articles will at least provide some inside information (& possibly some understanding) on the ins & outs of SSDs & SSD storage devices...

That is all I wanted to bring to the table...

Cheers!

šŸ¤” Not sure I agree with your math there. šŸ˜‰
If you check out Wikipedia's SanDisk Page & look under History, within the 3rd paragraph it states that SanDisk created a 20MB SSD in 1991. The price for the SSD was $1,000 USD. I did not believe it either until I looked it up. (I know that the Wiki's can be edited, but I doubt this statement is untrue.)

Since SanDisk's introduction of the SSD back in 1991 ( wow! 😮 -- 24 years ago!)

1991 was 32 years ago. 32 years 10 months to be exact.

And I just made myself feel old again.
