Start menu...on start up

I've been using Win11 for about a year or so and have been tweaking it and putting up with all the bug-ridden versions that Microsoft thinks are an acceptable release, pretty much like everyone else I suspect (task bar still missing icons, despite centuries of updates).

I've looked, but cannot find an answer to my latest annoyance: how do I, when starting up Windows from sleep, stop the Start menu from automatically appearing and staying on screen until I dismiss it? Did someone at Microsoft think this was a good idea? Do they think that ALL users start using their PC from a start menu?

It appears to also slow the transition from blurry login screen to actual interface (which I suspect is meant to be smooth but in reality suffers from a great deal of lag, despite a decent graphics card). I have to wait a fair bit until I can dismiss it by clicking somewhere outside of the menu. How do I stop it from appearing on start up/wake up?

Oh for heaven's sake - this is not normal behaviour and does not happen on any of my devices.

Did it not occur to you to ask if this is normal behavior, rather than assuming this was MS's fault by design? The fact you could not find an answer is a clue?

Try a repair upgade - see tutorial section.

Lol. Thank you, and no, it did it not occur to me, as the fact I could not find an answer to it, pointed to the possibility that it was standard MS behaviour...

Messing around with computers for 40 years means if MS do something like this, odds are it is intentional, until MS think it's a bad idea and roll it back. Has that happened before I wonder?

Perhaps I should have started with the words "Is this normal behavior" ?

Clearly it isn't, and thank you for pointing me to a repair upgrade as a potential solution. Having used MS's 'repair' option many, many times before over the years, I wish I could be more hopeful that it will be a fix.

Thanks again.
