Startup apps take ages to load on m.2 ssd

Hi.

Some people have had good luck starting Windows in reasonable time with this key addition in registry.

Just copy the contents below in between quote and unquote (exclude quote and unquote) and save the file with .reg file extension:

QUOTE

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Serialize]
"StartupDelayInMSec"=dword:00000000
"WaitForIdleState"=dword:00000000

UNQUOTE

Please refer to this thread in Microsoft forum: Startup apps artificially delayed on Windows 11? - Microsoft Q&A

Hope this helps.

Omg.... ok so now everything loads in about 2 seconds lol. I have two monitors and it all loads before one of my monitors does lol.

I did come across Serialize before as i done tons of research before making this post, but i didnt want to start messing with the reg just incase

Thank you for this, it loads in a blink now lol

@Mike321 Glad it worked for you.

By the way, I don't have that reg key in my Windows 11 25H2 Build 26200.6713, still my PC boots up from cold start to log-on screen in 30 sec. My PC is incompatible with Windows 11 requirements and is slightly over 10 years of age.

Happy computing.

I don't have the key, and my four Win11 Pro systems all boot in well under 30 seconds to login. The main system I use has a number of things loading after I login, but there's no significant delays there either.

Wild. Glad that reg key worked. For anyone curious, it was stated the reason is because at some point microsoft started doing a new way of calculating startup delay. It used to be a static value in milliseconds, which worked fine. But they made it even better by making it dynamic, so windows will wait for cpu idle state and only then it will launch startup apps. i guess, this is made because modern cpus are much weaker than old ones and putting a little bit of load on them is excessive :eyeroll:

So my take away is your cpu is too fast apparently lol

Im thinking its with certain configs, as iv seen others needing to use the serialize key too. Also just because its not an issue for you, doesnt mean its not an issue for others.

Yeh im thinking that too about how windows calculates start delay etc, It randomly started happening at some point with all the same components. Now with that key everything loads from hitting the desktop in 2-3 seconds lol

That must be it! :LOL:

Strange how after using that key and getting to the desktop screen my few apps (spotify,steam,etc) load in 2-3 seconds, so my cpu is for sure fast enough for this, it just must be the way windows handles the processes. I never had this issue until a few weeks ago i believe, nothings changed in my PC. For that reg key to fix this issue, is cant be hardware related

Its strange how it happened on my last installation, that i had for months, so before this thread i downloaded the latest windows 11 media tool, and done a full hard drive wipe before installing, the issue was still there

I know that the OP solved their issue. So I'm just putting this here as to how I solved issue I had with one program that I have launch at log-in to the system:

As chance would have it I had a situation in which one program I launch at startup always loaded very slowly – up to about 30 seconds before it was usable. To auto-launch the program I had a shortcut pointing to it in the Start Menu 'start-up' folder.

Today I had some spare time on my hands to experiment with the system and thought to try auto-launching the program via Windows Task Scheduler. So I arranged that so the program got launched on log-in and, lo and behold, once I had it all setup the program launches much faster when I boot-in when I am logged-in my account. The time difference for launch and program being in a useable state was very significant – 30 seconds went down to about 2 seconds.

I then tested to see if the task worked by just logging out of the system (i.e. without a reboot or system shutdown) and then logging back in again. The result of that test was that the program got launched successfully but the program's icon did not show up in the System Tray. It is essential to have the icon in the Tray as I control what the program does from the options present when clicking on the icon.

To solve this problem I found that I hade to edit the scheduled task and enter a 2 second delay to the launch of the task by the Task Scheduler. Once I did that, logging out and then back in again worked just fine for getting the icon in the Tray. So now down from 30 seconds to about 4 seconds which is pretty good and made me happy.

So, long and short, you could try launching some of your slow to load startup programs via Task Scheduler and see if that works for you.
