Strange Windows 11 Install

I hate to say it but they really don't make stuff like they used to.

Most of the PCs in my house that are actively running on the net run on DDR3 RAM and I refuse to apologize for that. Not really a hard core gamer myself, but my girls are and I have a total of 4 of those wife not included. So the girls keep me busy. As for the missuz, she is running a Haswell 4770K on a MSI 1050Ti and quite happy with the arrangement. She's also running 32 GB of factory matched RIPJAWS RAM in a solid Bubblegum Pink computer case on a Sabertooth Z87 system board. I'm no stranger to your layout. I've worked on many Haswell platforms.

I highly advise two things when you revitalize your unit: 1) Repasting your CPU and getting a good cooler if you don't already have one. 2) Get that dedicated GFX card. These two things will make a huge difference. Anyway, that's it for now. Stay in touch!

In 100% agreement with you..... NOTHING is like it used to be! :ffs:

Yessir, sage wisdom on display there regarding hardware recommendation(s).....greatly appreciated, my friend. :-)

Hopefully sooner rather than later, we'll start a thread in the Hardware Dept. seeking suggestions for Mobo, PSU, CPU,
RAM, and GPU......I just would like to run my CAD, Graphics, and other engineering related progs efficiently. Not much
interest in Gaming here, really.

At heart, always been an Intel typa guy....geeks in the local shop say 'stay away from the Ultra cpu's'....didn't bother to
ask why, frankly due to my overall feelings toward the present generation of youth.....hopefully, I've not offended anyone
here by that remark, and if so, my apologies.

It may be a challenge to package the new hardware dreams in this mATX case, but being all about form following function,
I think we can get it to work efficiently, as long as we can use a PCIe lane for a decent GPU. Something along that theme and
an i7 chip a 750 wattish PSU may do the trick.

Scannerman, sure appreciate your input, and in all due honesty, your personality's top notch in my book......Do NOT change
a thing!.....:lmao:......

Again, thanks a bunch!.....

Tim

PS- NOW!.....the next dragon to slay is this :ffs:Microsoft Account deal......having a difficult time with various permissions utilizing
a Local Acct w/FULL Admin privileges....for whatever reason! ( more :ffs:)

Yeah, I slipped up somewhere when I set up my Win 11 on a non-compliant system using MS instruction instead of Rufus. Somehow I went to an MS account log in from a local account and now I'm trying to beat back One Drive after renewing my Office 365. :::sigh::: Maybe I'll just leave it and get on with my next build.

mATX is challenging for sure. It's been a while since I worked on one of those. I gave away the last one to a kid who needed a PC. I must have done something right because they're still using it and his Dad dropped by to thank me and handed me a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. lol Not really much of a drinker but perhaps it will go well with some turkey.

The only thing I caution people on with intel CPUs is 13th and 14th generation chips. Intel largely has this under control now. There are plusses and minuses on both sides and although I own a few AMD rigs I mostly lean toward Intel. Again, as for the "ultras" it really depends on what you're after. I have a bit of a weakness for work stations so I like high end chips. Yet, in my bed room I'm still running a vintage i7 Bloomfield because all I do with that is watch videos and listen to audio books when I sleep.

By all means, start that thread in the PC building category and we'll chat some more. Remember to include pictures! :-)

lol "sage" wisdom . . . slowly getting some of this with the SAGE X299. Don't know how many times I'm going to forget to shut off Windows Update so it doesn't jump ahead on me before I'm ready to study what the update does in earnest. The old "ask first" thing doesn't seem to work well with me for some reason. Senility setting in, I guess.

Yeah, dealing with same Update dilemma as you!.....really miss the W7 methodology- study first, accept, or give it the boot.

Sorry, jus' not buyin' into the Microsoft rhetorical bs that W11 method is all about security and 'our best interest'.....for whatever reason, Microsoft is 'ignoring' special policies we've invoked within gpedit.msc, too.

All of a sudden we're having slow boot issues (startup, restart, and shutdown) issues we had never experienced until about 3-4 weeks ago. Go figure!

Take care!

These are just "growing pains". Creativity, careful commitment, illustrious ingenuity, and calculated manipulation are required to subtly violate and inundate every aspect of a domestic end user's privacy and autonomy in order to maximize profit. This simply isn't done over night. This transitory process requires several graduations, multiple failures, and distractions. After all, AI isn't just a glorified search engine.

Hey Scannerman.....
First off, apologies for late reponse....

Yes, for the most part, understood and agreed.

I'm going to send you a PM.....Please respond/reply at your convenience and/or will.....just have so much on my plate, presently, and at this juncture we're leaning toward the notion that managing it all at this point in life has become a perpetual 'catch up' loop....UGH!....

So, yeah, see you on the B side.... probably anytime between now, and a couple of days forthwith.

Thanks, regards, and Happy New Year!-

Happy Equinox to you too! The snow is finally starting to melt up this way and next month the forest will start filling out. Hopefully, I'll be able to get a little fly fishing done, or at least make a few camp fires, drag the girls through the bushes and make them cry about spiders. lol Anyway, that's all in the future. I'm looking forward to your DM. Later, my friend.
