Ok I have a new laptop an ASUS Vivobook 17 X1704VAPBF_X1704VA running 25H2 and after it was booting and running really slowly I updated the BIOS to the latest version and that fixed those issues so I am not thinking my problem is anything related to that.
Now I have had the internet connection dropping out after it is left idling for ay an hour or two and always overnight.
I have been communicating with an AI site and have jumped through that many hoops I have lost count of them.
Have tried disabling the net card a RealTek Semiconductor RTL8851BE WiFi 6 802.11ax PCIe Adapter and to cut a very long story short I now have a TP-Link T2 TAPO Wireless USB Adapter plugged in and and after many other tweaks/hacks to the network setup bypassing the internal card which I also unticked the box for it to be turned off with no effect and am now running a ping through a command prompt to keep the net connection going through the USB adaptor while the laptop is running, and I leave that as is but the connection is still dropped if left for over a couple of hours.
I have also logged into the TP Link site and tried suggested alterations in those settings for example setting the lease time to 86000 but with no effect.
As I do not like keeping he laptop powered on overnight that will mean trying the ping again when booting in the morning - "ping 192.168.0.1 -t"
Now I don't know if it has something to do with Windows version 25H2 because my previous Vivobook ran 24H2 and I never had problems like this nightmare, and for the last six weeks I have also had to jump through many hoops with setting up other stuff and it is getting to the point of thinking to ditching this laptop and going with another brand which frankly I do not want to do but will if I cannot get this network issue fixed before it drives me quite mad. .
So any ideas please I would really appreciate anything at all.

Now I have had the internet connection dropping out after it is left idling for ay an hour or two and always overnight.........thinking to ditching this laptop and going with another brand

No matter the brand, all modern laptops use modern standby rather than sleep as we have always been accustomed to.

A wireless adapter drops connection during idle or Modern Standby (S0 Low Power Idle) because Windows aggressively throttles or power-cycles the network card to save battery
Note:the following suggestions will affect battery unless laptop is plugged in.

Device Manager>expand Network Adapters>right click on your wireless adapter>select properties>select power management tab>uncheck "allow computer to turn off this device to save power"

Set Wireless Adapter to Maximum Performance
    • Open the Control Panel or search for Edit power plan.
    • Click Change advanced power settings.
    • Scroll down and expand Wireless Adapter Settings.
    • Expand Power Saving Mode and set both On battery and Plugged in to Maximum Performance

you could check in the device manager for USB ports and device
then check their properties > power settings
to make sure they are not set to 'power this device down'

you can also check in advanced power settings
control panel > power options > click 'change plan settings'

then in this window click change 'advanced power settings'
in advanced power settings check USB settings
and make sure that is not set to power the USB's down to save power.

best of luck Steve ..

Run `powercfg /sleepstudy` in an admin command prompt and open sleepstudy-report.html (it'll be in the folder you ran the command from) to check whether the drops line up with Modern Standby sessions. Then in Event Viewer open Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > WLAN-AutoConfig > Operational, find event 8003 at the time of a drop, and read its Reason line. If the drops line up with standby, set the sleep timeout for when plugged in to Never under Settings > System > Power & battery.

Ok folks well as it happens I was scratching around late last night and an AI site asked me why I need ed to know about airplane mode (I was curious about it as I had run out of stuff to try a fix on my net connection which keeps dropping out and it stated that if I ran a command line with this "reg add HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power /v PlatformAoAcOverride /t REG_DWORD /d 0" it would disable or stop/force Modern Standby. Those fixes like the power to the card and others I had already tried with zero effect so trying this after backing up the registry I thought was worth taking the risk because nothing else was stopping this laptop from dropping the net connection.
Now this morning I booted and low and behold my net connection was still well "connected". So I am just hoping this will have fixed the wretched problem.
Oh and the site gave me a command as well to undo that command if I ever needed to use the Modern Standby but hey if that lands me back in cuckoo land then why bother? But for anyone interest this is this "reg delete HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power /v PlatformAoAcOverride /f"
But in any case many thanks to you all for your inputs I do really appreciate the help from you all and this has been why this forum has been so great over the years I have been using it. :-)

Ok more to this problem I have been using a TP Link ACX600 TAPO one with an aerial and one of the button types.
Now I still had issues with the net dropping out even during a message sending or receiving and eventually found that these adapters work better in a 2.0 USB port where I was using a 3.0 port and it seems to be working fine but it will be interesting to see what happens when I power up the laptop tomorrow.

FYI (I've never had Wifi connection lost issues) I have several "low quality" Wifi USB adapters intended as USB3. They connect to the router at speeds (867 Mbps) that surpass the USB2 capacity, although the optical fiber speed (300 Mbps) is lower than USB2. I don't do internal networking, most times only one computer is on and it connects to the web or servers outside. In short they could lower the Wifi speed but they don't.

What they do is connect as USB2 devices, not for intelligent anything, just bad quality. I once discovered this (with an adapter I was using fine for months/years) and I firmly established it couldn't do USB3 in neither of 2 computers, although a new identical one could. All "cosmetic", no difference in browsing or downloading performance (that can peak over 40 MB/s from fast servers). I started using the new adapter anyway but some days after it lost its USB3 capacity lol, w/o actual performance loss.

The relevant command is given, with decent guidance & explanations, in
Disable Modern Standby in Windows 10 and 11 - ElevenForumTutorials
but do note that it does not always result in a well-behaving S3 Sleep system:-
- It might simply disable S0 Modern standby, leaving you with just Hibernation or Off choices.
- It might result in an unstable system that locks up after S3 Sleep is attempted.
Disabling S0 Modern standby - range of experiences - my post #8 - ElevenForum

I learnt to tame S0 Modern standby instead:-
Running scripts during S0 Modern standby - my post #86 - ElevenForum
So now, I can leave S0 Modern standby in place on my newer laptops.

But, personally, I do not think that S0 Modern standby [aka S0 Low power idle] has had anything to do with the problems reported by the OP.
S0 Modern standby starts when the display goes off - after the interval set in Power options or when some equivalent utility is run to turn it off.
If change of power/sleep state is suspected to be linked to some problem, Event viewer can be examined as it records these changes.

Ok folks I am sorry for the late reply but the connection has been in and out all day and just as in your reply I found out that this adapter only works well in a 2.0 USB port and I have it plugged in the on that this laptop has and I did try a hub because the pathetic lack of USB ports on this machine but that did not work and I have plugged in that adapter back into that single 2.0 USB port and apart from two brief drop outs it has stayed in the connection. It will be interesting to see if that connection holds up overnight because the problem has always affected the net connection over that period.

Ok I also think Try3 you have a point here it has been a real task going around the various devices changing thepower supply to those devices to not turn off and it has made a little difference but not entirely. I will look at those links too as this has become a nightmare like I have never had before and I still think that 25H2 has a rotten hand in this nonsense.
Anyway it will not be apparent until the morning as it's late here and I have had quite enough for one day.

I found out that this adapter only works well in a 2.0 USB port
I do not know if this is relevant to your problem but it might be.
I saw that with two old devices. It turned out that the allegedly USB 2 devices were in fact USB 1 / 1.1 so did not work in a new computer that had USB 3 [which is backwards compatible with USB 2].
So perhaps your adapter is not working correctly for a similar reason. Its name suggests it's modern enough to work in a modern USB 3 or USB 2 port. I suggest you ask the maker what is going on for it not to work in USB 3 connectors.

I also think Try3 you have a point here
I agree.
But I do not think it is relevant to your problem.
You can demonstrate this
- Change power options to keep your display on permanently.
- Re-enable S0 Modern standby using the command in the tutorial so your computer is back in whatever its designed power behaviour is.
- Reboot
- Run the command PowerCfg -a to confirm that S0 Modern standby [aka S0 Low power idle] is enabled.
S0 Modern standby will never start since the display is on.
So, if the problem still happens, you will have demonstrated that S0 Modern standby has got nothing to do with the problem.

Best of luck,
Denis

About S0 Modern standby enabling/disabling
I ran a cmd (PowerCfg -a) and it came back as the firmware does not support on each readout except for the Hibernation which is not enabled
That is news. If you have run the command to re-enable it but PowerCfg -a says it has not worked then you will need to restore a system image from before you first disabled S0 Modern standby.

A reminder on USB2 vs USB3.
To avoid interference, a common advice is to keep these types of USB devices apart from each other.
USB2 devices plugged directly into a USB3 port, will have a miserable time because of USB3 interference.
A way around it for a USB2 device, when there's a lack of USB2 ports you can use, is to get a cable.
Connect one end of the cable to the USB/2/3 port, and the other to the USB2 device. If the device has a base, great. Else keep it stable somewhere on the desk and away from the hardware or USB3 connectors.
