stumped for an answer

I also have my router transmitting both 5GHz & 2.4GHz.
- My printer can only work with 2.4GHz.
- My computer can work with both. I have it set to prefer the 5GHz and to prevent AutoSwitch while it's on that network.
[5GHz is both faster and much less cluttered with stray signals from passing vehicles & my neighbours.]

I believe that my computer & router can be set up to allow connecting to both 5GHz & 2.4GHz at the same time, some sort of combined signal that contains both frequencies, with considerable speed advantage but I put that on one side to be investigated when I get around to it. And I seem to have mislaid my notes on the subject and cannot even remember what this mode is called.

Denis
Ok Denis well my printer can work on either frequency I was under the impression that all printers were stuck with the 2.4Ghz but Canon support replied to me on a query I had with the new printer and they stated the printer I had bought works on both 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz.
Now I think some of my problem with connecting to the printer is maybe in part that when I power on the laptop I never know which frequency the net connection will be in as it is nearly always different to the one I left it in when shutting down.
Whether this is due to the laptop hardware the router or the OS butting in I have no idea. The internal card a Realtek RTL8851BE WiFi 6 I have disabled because it was obviously not working as it should be and I am now using a TP-Link Archer T2U Plus AC600 High Gain Wireless Adapter which works fine so why the connection still flicks between those two frequencies I think has to be down to the laptop hardware or more so the operating system.
To be up front I just do not like this 25H2 version and problem there is I am stuck with it.

That's what setting up the network priories and auto-switching will fix for you.

But since your printer can connect at 5GHz then you could just turn off your router's 2.4Ghz signal completely. Your router manual will tell you how.

Ok Denis will try that and see what happens as at the moment the connection changes form one to thew other whenever I power off the laptop to usually 2.4Ghz when I boot again int the morning for example and then back to 5Ghz after a few minutes. But frankly after all the hoop jumping I have to say I am simply glad it stays connected at all before it was a real nightmare of having to reconnect it and then finding picking a frequency often came back as cannot connect to this network.
No all I have to do is get the desktop to connect with the printer and am just waiting on another TP Link AC660 Plus for it as the button type is useless and trying to use the USB connection is again a rotten problem that I have given up on.

Connecting to your network should be enough if your printer is also connected to your network.

Have you yet restored the system image from before all this started?

I don't recall that being mentioned before.
I don't know why you are referring to it when trying to address your network horrible.
Unless you mean the USB your WiFi adapter is plugged in to.
Have you re-installed all your hardware drivers from the maker's support site?
Including the original [internal] WiFi adapter driver from your maker's support site?

Ok well mate it is only because the USB cable connection on the desktop worked fine with the other printers I have had but the new one I don't really know why to be honest the desktop is an old Ivy Bridge build of mine and it's probably too old to run this function but that is just my next issue to be fixed and not really what my problems were meant to be in this thread - my bad mate for even mentioning it.

Ok Denis mate my bad again sorry for the confusion I was just getting really tired when I mentioned the desktop and also sick of the hoops that I have been jumping through over recent weeks . The situation is that I can print from the laptop which has been the problem with that net connection. I tried connecting the desktop by Wi-Fi a while ago and was trying to connect it via a USB cable but it failed too.
So again my apologies for that drift off into that post I made it doesn't matter it will get fixed at some stage.
To be honest I have always had a problem with networking and printers both and as I said over the last few weeks there have been so many issues with the laptop and he net connection it simply amplified the frustration with those problems.
Still I have it sorted now and thanks again for those links to those tutorials.
