Solved switching from FF to Chrome browser. any caveats?

any security issues?
I am NOT logged in to google.
I am using Tab Shelf vertical tabs and uBlock Origin Lite extensions (and a couple others).
So far all my (140+) tabs work.
GRC is happy.

I can't answer that question as I can't imagine using 140 tabs.

Use Brave... is much better than Chrome. Less intrusive telemetry... and... doesn't do certain practices I won't mention because this site is patronized by our adorable ads lol.
If you absolutely need to switch to a chromium based browser, use Brave, or Vivaldi.

chrome://flags gives you Experimental - search "ai mode" and disable the 5 and restart.

add Bye bye google ai extension.

Try Vivaldi, more customizable and still the Chrome engine

You'd be a good candidate for OneTab.

Chrome has oodles of caveats. For one, it doesn't hold a candle against Firefox' privacy tweaks. Take Codeberg Narsil, for example. Just because GRC is happy, doesn't mean that I am happy. lol

That said, I run multiple instances of Firefox portable instead of relying solely on Firefox profiles and the Firefox Multi-Account Containers extension. This is only possible to achieve with the portable edition of Firefox. Running multiple instances of the same browser adds certain benefits like the ability to close-modify-restart any instance individually such a way that doing so doesn't affect all the other instances or the browser windows thereof.

That said, by running each different instance in a different sandbox through Sandboxie-Plus it also is possible to apply a different set of file/resource access restrictions on each instance (through each sandbox' own settings).

Further, with Firefox portable you can also make multiple copies of the same FirefoxPortable folder, and then modify each copy in a different way. Each different copy can be run as a separate instance, but you can still also run multiple instances of the same copy if that's all you need. And no, none of this will prevent you from simultaneously running Chrome. You can even run Chrome in its own separate sandbox through Sandboxie-Plus whenever you want. What you can NOT do is run multiple instances of Chrome (sandboxed or not, doesn't make a difference to this). To be able to run multiple instances of the same browser, you'll need to replace Firefox with Firefox portable and apply a special setting in Firefox portable, and that only exists in Firefox portable. If you want me to explain how this works, just ask.

Finally, IMO you should consider what drove you to abandon Firefox anyway in the first place. Some problems can't be fixed. But a lot of them still can be.

I'm genuinely curious? Why? Ok, I accept a browser choice is just that, a choice, but it would be interesting to know why Brave warrants just those two words?

From a personal perspective, having used Google, Edge and Firefox previously, I'm now sold on Brave. Been using it for over a year now. I've got it set up exactly how I need it, it's really tight on security for me. It absolutely smashes Ads. I also like the experimental/developer tool that allows forced dark mode on every site, helps with my eyes. I can use Startpage search without problems as it's a built in option on Brave. It's lightweight. I like it.

The question is, was it worth migrating to Chrome instead of sticking with Firefox?

I haven't used Chrome in about 5 years and replaced it with Brave.

I've also been using Firefox ESR for about 15 years now and don't want to give it up. My main browser is Firefox.

Frustrated because (as it turns out) my CITI bank site wont show "alert settings" if I have installed uBlock Origin.
So I got super frustrated and moved everything to Chrome, where, it turned out, the same thing happened - it worked until I added the uBlock Lite extension.
Unless its something else I don't realize.
So I deleted all tabs from Chrome except CITI and Verizon (Verizon used to not work right on FF so I was using Chrome but now works fine on FF...)
So, back to using FF, unless I need to access my CITI alerts.

Any advice on why uBlock Origin is affecting CITI would be appreciated. (I did set uBlock Origin to do nothing with that site but it still apparently affects it if it is installed.)

Dunno, but what you can do is make sure uBlock Origin's little red shield is on your toolbar and everytime you visit the CITI website, press the shield icon and turn off uBlock Origin temporarily. You can also set uBlock Origin to be automatically disabled everytime you visit CITI's website.

I sometimes have to do that when I visit certain websites that don't render properly.

yeah, don't know what's doing it. Just tried it on Brave and it didn't work there either. Something that it needs is being blocked. I disa uBlock in FF and shut off Ghostery but still no joy. Tested Chrome again and it works there.

That's junk. uBlock Origin has everything Ghostery has, and then some. You are duplicating efforts there.

I found the number of cookies on a site went down when I finally added ghostery, so it's a keeper for me. I think the site I was using was amazon, but I forget.

It can also add conflicts to things. I had uBlock Origin, Adguard and Ghostery extensions on my system years ago and ran into a number of difficulties with website rendering and cookie refusal. I finally picked the best one, uBlock Origin, and junked the other two. It ran much better after that.

My advice would be to go through all your extensions and see which ones you really don't need. Disable them all temporarily and test to see if you can get into the CITI site or not. It sounds to me like an extension may be causing your problems.

Consider also refreshing Firefox as well...but back up your bookmarks and passwords just in case.

That is good generic advice for any situation. I had it on my to do list anyway, so disabled all extensions and work first time but not second time.
I went to privacy and set it to custom and UNCHECKED everything, but still same.(so back to standard (I discovered that I had it on strict for some reason yesterday so set it to standard).
I just checked Chrome and it worked correctly 2 times in a row. But feeling this is definitely squirrel-y.

Note here, this is not a critical issue since I rarely if ever have to access that but only did in last couple days because CITI apparently changed their code and the alert settings so I am guessing had to blank what I had as I had noticed I was not getting alerts for a couple days. (now am). I chatted and he put stuff in there which I am now able to check/change with Chrome.

Like all things computer, I just wonder what in FF is problematic. :)

Microsoft Edge is based on Chrome. You're already running it without realizing it.
