Solved System Protection issue

I like to have system protection turned off because I use Macrium Reflect for backups on a regular basis.
For some reason Windows will turn it back on for my system drive (C).
I don't know what triggers Windows to do this. Is there a way to permanently prevent this from happening?

Sometimes Windows updates will turn things ON, that you have turned OFF.
Win 11 is a new OS... things like this will happen for a while yet.

Just keep turning it OFF for now.


Side note:
In a lot of these tutorials, it seems that the registry patches, work the best.
They generally seem to be the equivalent or stronger (more final), of the offered solutions.

You could always reduce the space allocated to it to 0% or something too small to hold a restore point if win 11 lets you

System Protection should stay turned off unless there was a new OS install/upgrade. Windows 10 System Protection won't stay off

Anyway, I leave mine on for C-drive, but only dedicate 2 percent (10gig) to it. Anything past that will delete the oldest Restore Point(s) first to make room for the next restore point(s).

I leave it turned on, just in case it may be useful one day. If you're concerned that your Macrium images will be bloated with all your restore points, then you shouldn't be. The restore points are specifically excluded from a Macrium image.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

This happens to me with some things xD, HDR sometimes likes to turn itself off after an update, Also it ALWAYS turns back on search indexing after every one, Thankfully its 2 seconds to sort. However i've had automatic sample submisson turned off from day 1 and it doesn't come back on. Yay xD
