I set this new laptop up with t-bird as the default email program. Unfortunately, Outlook keeps popping up when new emails arrive. How can I fix that? Thanks.

Thanks - I did do that but it still opens Outlook when one arrives. I'll try it again.

What if you click on Outlook in the Default App list? Can you set it to T-Bird?

For example, my Default App list contains the Windows Mail app. When I click on that, the default comes up as T-Bird.

When I click on T-bird and set as default - the third time I've tried - no deal. I will check out your suggestion.

There are two entries for the mail for Microsoft. One says "mail" and a few more say "outlook" Even though I indicated T-bird, it is still going to Mail which uses Outlook. I should probably uninstall Outlook from this pc. I guess that would work.

Do you mean incoming mail is appearing in Outlook instead of Thunderbird? I don't understand that. Why would there be an active account in Outlook if you don't use it?
But if you do not need Outlook, I would indeed just uninstall it. I have not used it since my working years, and always hated it. Thunderbird is the way to go.

I use it on my Kindle - if I uninstall it from the laptop, will it still be available on the Kindle? I want everything to work -- dream on...:-) Thanks.

I don't know anything about email on a Kindle, but you can use different email apps on different devices. If you are set up as MAPI on each device, everything should work easily.
If anything goes wrong, or you might need Outlook on your laptop in the future, you should be sure to have access to the installation files.
I use Thunderbird on two Windows laptops, and Apple mail on an iPhone and iPad. It all works seamlessly.

I removed it from the apps section but it is still sending emails on my kindle. so people are getting two -- I went to the control panel to remove programs and it is not listed solely. Microsoft 365 is all I can see that may contain the outlook program. I do not use Ms365 nor do I want it. I think it is power point, excel etc. I am going to try that.

Well, then -- I have no idea what your setup is. I know of no way that a single email would be sent from the device on which it is composed AND form a different email app on another device simultaneously.

Thanks for all ... I removed the microsoft giant package which included outlook - I did not need all of the apps contained in that package. All seems to be working --
