The word "renewed" turns me off every time. Many things that are "renewed" are defective returns and they "test" them and find no issues so they call them "renewed".

I can't say anything about this tablet but I've had very good luck buying refurbished laptops from Micro Center. In fact everyone of the laptops I bought from them have been at least 10X better than all of the new laptops my wife has purchased from the local big chain department store. Because I've never had a problem returning a purchase to Amazon I'm more concerned with the specs of the tablet. One spec I like is that it's listed as having an SSD and not eMMC storage.

I agree. I've been dyed in the wool Microsoft for 45 years and I still use and love my two Apple iPads. I have a 13" iPad Pro and an iPad Mini. My advice would be to give her an Apple Store gift certificate and let her pick out her own.

Because it's not for me a affordable iPad is Ok. If it was for me I have to admit that I'm not a Apple person.

Yep, I was in high school in the late 50's, and I was the first guy in my class to show up with a slide rule. It was the calculator of the day. I'm pretty sure I still have that old K&E Log Log Duplex Decitrig Slide rule somewhere in my attic storage! I see them nowadays for peanuts on eBay, but they don't have the memories attached. :hug:

@Winuser That one is a good choice but so should one of the other a16 models that are cheaper. Depends on how much storage she needs. Whichever you buy, get a $15 magnetic case to go with it. Cases are model/size specific.
If she has an iphone, she'll be able to pair her phone to her ipad so she can answer calls and texts on the ipad. When I am at home, I do more talking and texting on my ipad than I do my iphone.

I first took a bite of the Apple in 2018. It was one of the cheapest models and is still going strong. It just won't update any more. In 2023 I bought a new iphone and love it too. Also in 2023 I bought a 2021 model ipad pro from a friend who never learned to use it. It was still in the box. Best $400 I ever spent. I use it more than my PC. Last year I sent the ipad pro to Apple for a new battery. Rather than install a battery, Apple sent back a brand new device (not a refurb) So yeah, I do love me some Apple.

My daughter in grade 10 loves the Asus Vivobook 14 Flip 14 notebook that I got her. She's into digital art so she loves the 2-in-1 purpose. She can flip the keyboard to make it work like a tablet, and then unflip it to function as a laptop for her schooling.

The specs are great, more than a 9th grader will need. The word renewed is a better term for refurbished. Yes, it is an old used one, but the term implies it has some kind of Warranty, unlike used devices you buy from an individual. Also you should have a few days return margin, so test it very well and return if necessary.

Why Windows tablet? Because with a set of keyboard and mouse it is converted to a laptop and you can even work on it with the familiar Windows applications you use everyday. Apple is more expensive and doesn't have too many applications to choose from and Android is cheaper but very limited compared to Windows 11.

If I do decide to go with that one I would swap out the SSD for one of my spare SSDs. That is if it's not too hard to take the back off.
