Windows 11
Having just been surreptitiously "upgraded" to Windows 11, by Windows 10, I decided to go ahead and take the hit now and migrate. After a bit of research, I can see that not being able to move the taskbar is a well known "issue", and that Microsoft has claimed the animations were too difficult to implement with taskbar freedom. Please refactor the code so it is not!! I would prefer my taskbar at the top, thank you very much!

(The workarounds, other than 3rd party apps also no longer work. Microsoft has decided to automatically update the registry keys that allowed this feature to be re-enabled every time Explorer is restarted.)

Correct. MS is removing lots of junk, useful and not. It's either learn to like W11 or use 3rd party apps which is a whole other ball of wax. Personally, I actually learned to like W11 after a short while but I know many other users like or need some old features.

Windows 11 fixed bottom taskbar is one of the biggest complains of the users. Personally always get used to the operating system behavior, being Windows, Linux or Android. But also understand the users who want to custom their desktop.

I hear you Miguel. I can get used to it. My first workaround was to create desktop icons for any features I need and put them at the top, but that, of course, creates it's own rigmarole like whenever the display settings change. Maybe I'll write a mini-app that's just a tray of launch buttons...

MS isn't removing lots of junk because you've got too much junk on your PC, they're removing junk cuz they want tighter control over the OS!
Back in the W7 days, when PC's were lucky to have 4 to 8GB of RAM, Windows was capable of miracles, now with 16 or 32GB of RAM and upwards, PC's should have no problem running all kinds of junk!

Explorer Patcher is freeware that's still working and allows moving the taskbar where you want as well as reverting to a Windows 10 taskbar. (I have the Win10 task bar vertical on the left.) Download at: Home

Will it work forever? Maybe not because MS may remove functionality on which it depends, but meanwhile it makes me happy.

Just set the registry key to run at startup. If you restart explorer without reboot, run the reg file again. Does the reg not work for you at all?
