Taskbar shortcuts for Portable apps

I was looking at this thread(below) but they don't mention that when you pin a portable.exe to the taskbar and launch it, it creates a duplicate taskbar shortcut of the actual .exe it's calling to. So while the app is launched, there's always 2 shortcuts in the taskbar. But if you instead create a taskbar shortcut of the actual .exe that's being called (so there's only one taskbar shortcut at all times), an entirely new set of data files are created in the C:\Users\.... folder instead of containing the data files to the portable folder. Which defeats the purpose of portability.

So how do I only see one taskbar shortcut in the taskbar while the app is launched and keep Data Files OUT of the C:\Users\... folder? (My portable apps are located in C:\Portable) Thanks.

One icon is the shortcut, the other is the running program.

In earlier versions of Windows you could change the settings whether to combine icons, never combine, etc, but not in Win 11 (although rumour has it that it's coming back !!)

You need to install 3rd party customising addons like StartAllBack or ExplorerPatcher or ... umpteen others

Cool Thanks.. I have StartAllBack and it's already set to Always Combine Taskbar Buttons. Unless I just accept that my recent User Data Files will be in C:\Users\... for the sake of Taskbar convenience.
