TeamViewer is a great software and I love to use it.
I have used many times to fix my ex wife (that lives on another state) computer, helped some friends and even people I met on the forum that lives on another country.
I don't use regularly but when I do I can connect to the remote computer many times on a single day.
Some time ago (maybe a year ago) I had TeamViewer blocked with the suspect of commercial use, that has never happen. At that time I had a link to explain may activities and then TeamViewer was released.
It has been blocked again. The last time I used normally was in December to install a software on a friends computer that lives on another state. It took less than half an hour.
Yesterday I was using to connect to my ex wife computer and after a few minutes it came with a message that it has disconnected by timeout due to suspect of commercial use.
How can it be if I rarely use it?
I have seen many same complains on the WEB. This time there is no link to explain may activities.
Unfortunately I think TeamViewer is on the way of eliminating the free connection.

Does someone has same issue?

Teamviewer has been having multiple issues with this for a lot of people. Google it and you will find tons of people with the issue. I had to switch to google remote desktop. I love teamviewer, but this commercial use I am confident it is a bug, I get it everytime I use the mobile app. If I dont use the mobile app, I dont get the message.

Its been going on for a year or so and they unblock me and then I just get blocked again. It still allows 5 minutes use which is enough for me usually but I use chrome remote desktop for longer sessions.

Wonder how long yours will last until you get blocked again

Use Microsofts' "Quick Assist" as an alternative, but you cant copy files over and there's no chat, just text messaging.
However it is already installed.

I ran into the same timeout issue and started looking for an alternative. TeamViewer cut off my connection in the middle of a session which was super annoying.
Now I’m using HelpWire: Free And Simple Remote Support it’s free I use it a lot and it doesn’t cut out during long sessions.
Everything works great!

Good idea

@antspants -- but if you want to xfer files install filezilla on your machine and get the IP address of the remote machine then simpy send the files. It can work the other way around too if filezilla is installed on the remote machine. (Install filezilla in your preferred language of course !!!). It's 100% free.

Skjámynd 2024-09-26 111323.png

In English -- boxes are remote (enter sftp://remoteservername / ip address
User -- enter user account on remote server
password -- self explantory
port - leave blank default is 21. Use another one if port 21 is closed -- it's usually open
connect -- self explanatory !!!

Use the remote's user-id and password --as it's relatives should be OK - for just helping 3rd parties etc you'll need another app instead.

@Lum

I'malways suspicious of this "We may be going Fremium" which generally means that the features you might want such as file transfer etc will be on the PAY part. This gets annoying if you use free software and then it either gets withdrawn or the features you want are removed. While Macrium V8 (Free) still works reliably - it's got quite a few users annoyed because the whole thing has gone essentially "subscription".

If you install ITS or Apache on Windows (Internet server) you can manage this stuff yourself - a bit of a hassle to set up but then it's 100% under your control !!!! - your remote user can logon to your server and then you are "in business".

Looking at another thread about Linux -- nothing to do with this thread BTW - I was just thinking - Linux users on the whole are much more likely to dabble in this type of stuff wheras Windows users tend to want "Canned Software" working straight OOTB. Both approaches have their merits and disadvantages of course but if you've time and a spare machine try playing around with it.

You can create a "remote" machine by using your phone as an Internet access point for testing. Even if you only have one machine - you need though two network adapters --- just create the remote machine as a Virtual Machine with no network card and connect a separate USB->WIFI to it as its network adapter, install the software and it's equivalent to a totally separate machine not on your own ISP router (connect to the phone's Internet access point - ensure phone is on 4/5G and not on wifi for this test).

Cheers
jimbo
