This kind of comments are usually heard from users advocating their "MS sucks" policy, regardless how good their systems work. In most cases, the critics come from users who have not even tested the MS service in question, out of simple principle that if it's from MS, it must be bad.

I think we're all getting off topic here -- the whole point as re-iterated before wasn't on whether Cloud services are good, bad, risky, or indifferent but whether you wanted to use that particular provider.

For me no -- nothing to do with the cloud in general or even the cost --I just would rather not deal with servers based in (and probably) controlled by China.

However if the service doesn't provide what the OP said without a lot of get arounds e.g zip files etc without having to pay extra for "premium" accounts then surely the rest of the whole issue is irrelevant.

Either the service works as OP says - and you are happy with it , or you don't want to use it for other reasons like I've given in my case. Nothing to do whether you like the Cloud or not etc. That's a whole different issue.

My understanding is as follows:
For many scenarios, it is cheaper and safer to have local data storage.
Modern external hdd/ssd are cheap, fast and reliable.
Of course, this is not for the case when you need remote access.

Hard to say since it's not the same as Google One as it's the shared drive you get unlimited as the My Drive part is either the free or whatever plan you are already under directly from Google.

Hard to say since remember unless they hacked google's servers, how will they even create the account with that amount of storage for you to use. It could be they just have this big enterprise level license and they are just selling access to it or something. Even with a paid product directly from Google, you never know when it can fail on you.
