Text size becomes enormous on occasion in WIndows 11.

Very weird issue. When I run some programs of mine, for less than a second the text is very, very large then the normal text appears. This seems to happen in cases where the program uses the system fonts. Programs that do their own font processing don't seem to be affected.

There are some factors involved in this. Doesn't happen with all programs.

1. The program must start in maximized mode. These programs can be 'fixed' by disabling the minimize and maximize animation in settings. Also having them start up in normal mode seems to fix the problem too.

2. Programs that open up windows within themselves might show the large text. Quicken for Windows is such a program. If I open up the Memorized Transaction window when I am in a Register the Register in the new window will appear with the very large text. Less than a second later the MT window replaces it with normal text.

3. Most of the programs by Nirsoft when setup to be run maximized will produce the large text.

I did a clean install of Windows 11 under VMware Workstation 16.x and it also does the same thing. One would think then this is a bug in Windows 11. It might be but even though it's a VM text processing is still going through my real graphics card and monitor so it could be them causing the issue.

Can someone check this out for me? Probably the best way is to grab a Nirsoft utility. FileTypeMan is a good example. Remember to switch it to Maximized mode and enable the minimize/maximize animation in your Advanced Settings.

Have you reset the Windows 11 fonts from Control Panel --> Fonts --> Font Settings.

Make sure to install the newest version of graphic card driver.

Just a guess, but could that be your problem? You've got animation set to ON. If you type "animation" in to the Search space and turn animations OFF with the slider, does this odd effect still occur?

In Advanced System Settings, one of the very first things I do in a new version of Windows is stop all the nonsense:

There is a 4th factor that you haven't spotted yet. It only ever happens if you have Display > Scaling set to anything other than 100%. How much bigger the initial text size is depends on how big a scaling you have set.

One would think then this is a bug in Windows 11.

I can easily reproduce this effect in Windows 11, I cannot reproduce it in Windows 10 whatever scaling I use.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

one cause of my problem is due to enabling max/min animation. I always had this enabled in Windows 10 which btw I never had this problem. However while disabling this option does fix some of my programs, it doesn't fix windows that are opened in Quicken for example.

My DPI is 200% as I use a 32" 3840x2160 4K monitor. I can't possibly use anything less because things are too small. Again, this never caused this problem under Windows 10. I just palyed around with different DPI's. It appears the problem happens at 100% and above. At 100% the window with the larger text size changes back to normal so quickly it is hard to see. I can tell that there is a change. At progressively higher DPI's it is easier to see as the effect lasts longer. Testing should be at a DPI more than 100% to see the larger text more easily.

And as I said the case of Quicken is that the new window with the larger text is not the window I chose. It is the window that is on screen when I open the new window. This makes the problem even more strange.

To test just enable min/max animation and grab the Nirsoft utility I mentioned. Set you DPI to a higher value.

Yes. Exactly the same. The W11 PC I used to test this was System One in 'My Computers' below. I tested with some Nirsoft utilities.

Good only as opposed to a problem on my system.
