Solved Thanks Macrium V8 --Brilliant piece of software


Quick question.

If I upgrade to V8, will I need to create a new USB Rescue Disk? Or can I just continue using the v7 rescue disk?

I created a new rescue media usb data pen and created a new image. It takes very little time and you can reuse your existing usb data pen

I think The-Hive is on the money. Sometimes the MR update docs say that a new Rescue drive would be a good idea, and sometimes they don't say that. I've had flawless results using even the previous Version's flash drive, but it's so easy to plug in your rescue flash and use the menus to create a new one that it hardly makes sense to risk the possibility of any mismatch and consequent failure by just holding onto your old rescue drive. Do 'er, Dude. :cool:

@Wisewiz I think it is just good practise to update Rescue media and do a new image. It doesn't hurt, takes no time and can be a life saver if the worst comes to the worst and you need only to find yours is out of date

Yes, you should. But as there have been no changes to the image format from v7 to v8 then almost any older recovery usb should still be able to restore an image made by v8. I tested a similar scenario three years ago when v7.2 replaced v7.1.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

I know exactly what you guys are talking about. Easy and fast. But it is not like we use the rescue media everyday and can be created any time. What I am trying to find out is if anyone tried the v7 rescue media to restore v8 image. But since I can't get a direct answer to my question, I just did it anyway and created a new image.

Yeah, that has been a big issue before. There is no warning about it. It's a head scratcher for early users who may think that their image is faulty without realizing that it is just a mismatch between the rescue media version against the Macrium image version.

It is always about what works best for someone's requirements. And since forums like these provide a platform for people to share their experiences and finds, posts like this are always welcome.

With the thousands of good comments and satisfied users about a program it can't be bad, one person has a bad experience and then they think it is the worst program and it is probably their set up anyway. In my opinion if someone says it is the best then I assume that is just their own opinion and so I don't over complicate a simple remark.

Problems with software is not the fault of the software itself. It is mostly due to pre-existing issues with the OS before installing any software and the knowledge of the user when it comes to troubleshooting.
I had zero problems with Macrium myself.

A 4-pack is just four individual single keys. Yes, anyone can use the keys. The only proviso is that when they install a key it checks on the MR registration servers and will say it is registered to your name in Help > About Macrium Reflect.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October 2021 it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update, 24H2 on 3rd October 2024 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 24H2, and 25H2 on 30th September 2025 through Windows Update by setting the Target Release Version for 25H2.

    UPDATE - 11 April 2026: due to mechanical deterioration this PC has been retired from active duty. The OS with all software and files has been migrated to my System Seven in 'Other systems' to carry on as my general purpose 'main machine'.

    My SYSTEM SIX is a Dell Latitude 5550, Core Ultra 7 165H, 64GB RAM, 1TB NVMe SSD, supported device, Windows 11 Pro 24H2, Hyper-V host machine. Updated to 25H2 on 30th September 2025.

    My SYSTEM SEVEN is a Lenovo Thinkpad T580, Intel Core i7-8650U, 16GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD + 2nd 512GB NVMe SSD, a supported device for Windows 11. This is my current general purpose 'main machine'. The installed Windows 11 Home from my System One has been migrated to this machine.
