Solved Thanks Macrium V8 --Brilliant piece of software


A 4-pack is just four individual single keys. Yes, anyone can use the keys. The only proviso is that when they install a key it checks on the MR registration servers and will say it is registered to your name in Help > About Macrium Reflect.
It seems this is not the case according to EULA.

Unless each license is locked to a person's acct who purchased it, then it is not possible to share it. Macrium is just protecting their own interest (business) but I don't know if they have real control over it.
What if I want to install to my kid's computer? My kids won't buy Macrium. :)

I want to express my thanks to the Macrium support team for their help in quickly resolving a difficulty.
Recently, using the Black Friday, get 4 licenses for the price of 1 deal, I had inserted an extra character into my email address. My bad.
This kind of messed things up in a few ways, to put it bluntly. I had used Paypal to purchase the deal.
A few emails/messages back and forth, and that problem was corrected.
The helpful support people helped me get my 4 'keys' to upgrade/install v8 and provided me with quick solution in correcting my email for my account.

The upgrades went smoothly, all my backup scripts imported ok, my email notifications of (success or fail) on backups, everything went perfect.
Thank you Macrium, I appreciate the sales, support, and quality of the product.

Hilarious. You are good at put baseless labels on others, which in itself is bad behavior just defined by yourself. Is this the proper netiquette you are talking about? LOL. You are shooting yourself in the foot.

People needs to think for themselves in terms of which app may suit them the best, not brainlessly follow some subjective "feelings" someone shares. I believe in data, numbers, but not lip service. I tested more than 10 disk imaging apps using high compression ratio for offline full disk imaging and measured speed/size of the images. Terabyte and Acronis came out on top of all other apps so these are what I use now. I doubt anyone here had done the same. State how you use the app and the data then I'll believe what you said.

It's even more hilarious when someone @Anibor_11 even think constant quality is not good, but rather, big updates are good. I don't know what's in his mind. You need a app to be stable, reliable, with top quality and minimum change. That's what Terabyte is. Sounds like you like an app that's constantly "updated", like Windows update? I know I don't.

This sounds a lot like advertising/spam

Hi there all you Macrium Fan boys & Girls, (love mentioning this) :LOL:

Like I mentioned before, I was pretty much satisfied with your Macrium comments since most of the regulars test their stuff and don't usually give a thumbs up on emotions (well maybe @jimbo45 a bit) :scream:

So since I saw a black Friday deal I decide to try out 1 licence. I am sorry to say that I'm not off to a solid start. :rolleyes:

1) I flushed Acronis Entirely for my first test (kept an image though)
2) Installed the Home version. I must say, it's not as much different as TI it's mostly a whole different interface but you easily recognize the language so it didn't take long for me to understand the dashboard.
3) I rebooted and tried a backup of Windows
4) Waited 10 minutes and finally got his nice message:

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not here to start going on a rant about Macrium. Maybe I did something wrong. maybe I missed a setting.

So I said to myself, I will use my one year lifeline which is much the same as Acronis (hope their support is better) Acronis forum members are very good.

So, got an email next day saying I have to use the support submission wizard.

I've been using it on half a dozen machines at least once a month for about 4 years and only seen that error once. And yes, the Windows VSS was broken and needed fixing.

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. Well, I had no issues with TI on it so I'm a bit at a loss.

Invaluable program. Saved my bacon many times. I won't say more about backup software. I learned my lesson last week.:D

Hi All,

Update on the Macrium investigation. I found the problem. Acronis has a cleaner that you can use to completely remove any leftovers from the last software on the machine. In fact it cleans so well that it deletes the VSS for the C drive. On the other hand, if you simply uninstall and and get rid of the Acronis folders afterwards then Macrium will install and work fine.

I must say that all in all, After 5 solid days of testing Reflect, compared to True image, they both are pretty much equal in quality and are very good backup solutions.

The most annoying thing between Acronis and Macrium, is that Macrium keeps it simple and Acronis makes it complicated to a point that I have jumped ship. Mind you since I find both to be very similar, I will run True image until it doesn't do what it's supposed to do and I will install Reflect. If you want to add the image guardian which resembles Cyber protect, you at least have the choice of enabling or not which is not the case with Acronis (but I know how to shut it completely off.

So, my final words, If you've used Macrium for a long time, keep using it, it's very good. If you're using True Image and you don't want a subscription and ransomware protection, keep any version from 2020-2021 (they have new TIBX backups but 2016 and up will work with Win 11 unless you have new hardware that is at most 3 years old then stick with 2020-2021).

If you want the latest backup software. Macrium is the choice. You won't be disappointed with Reflect and you won't be that confused with the interface. :wink:

Maybe you should let Acronis support know what damage their cleaner does?

But the major difference is Macrium fixes serious bugs in days but Acronis takes months often waiting for next major upgrade (I have experienced this a couple of time - not very nice way to force you to buy an upgrade). Now Acronis have gone to a subscription basis, is it too much to expect that they fix bugs promptly?

    fully 'Windows 11 ready' laptop. Windows 10 C: partition migrated from my old unsupported 'main machine' then upgraded to 11. A test migration ran Insider builds for 2 months. When 11 was released on 5th October it was re-imaged back to 10 and was offered the upgrade in Windows Update on 20th October. Windows Update offered the 22H2 Feature Update on 20th September 2022. It got the 23H2 Feature Update on 4th November 2023 through Windows Update.

    My SYSTEM THREE is a Dell Latitude 5410, i7-10610U, 32GB RAM, 512GB ssd, supported device running Windows 11 Pro (and all my Hyper-V VMs).

    My SYSTEM FOUR is a 2-in-1 convertible Lenovo Yoga 11e 20DA, Celeron N2930, 4GB RAM, 256GB ssd. Unsupported device: currently running Win10 Pro, plus Win11 Pro RTM and Insider Beta as native boot vhdx.

That's not been my experience with Macrium support. On the one occasion I had a bug to report I got a response (and a fix to test) within hours, and a patch was release for all the next day. It may have helped that I first reported the bug on the Macrium forum.
Good for you Bree. We all know that support techs aren't all the same. Some care and some.... well, I even asked the support tech if he would add the solution to a KB and I didn't get a response.

Nevertheless, I never base the quality of software based on support because some tech support can make software look bad plus most of the time support is time limited so your on your own more often than not or with forum members.

Like I said, Macrium is a GREAT product

I'd rather encourage the new guy and let him know :wink: . I'm already peeved enough @Acronis.
