Thunderbird 115: CSS Customization

Are you using a custom value for "layout.css.devPixelsPerPx" (greater than the default) in about:config ? With a non default value, the popups for Tasks / Events become larger, and even the Mouse Middle Button Scroll-Zoom doesn't work on that dialog window except for the text input box.

Instead of the Tasks/Events opening in a dialog box, have you tried opening them in tabs? With some CSS it is just about possible to view them without getting cut off.

Spot on DAS. I am using a setting of 1.2 with layout.css.devPixelsPerPx. Is there a setting where they will be smaller without my sizing going too small?

If not, how do I open them in tabs please?

You'll find the tasks/events in tab option in Setting > Calendar : Edit events and tasks in a tab instead of in a dialog window. Although, with that devPixelsPerPx setting, the text input box may still be cut off.

If the text input box still gets cut off, and I think it will because of the devPixelsPerPx, you can try the following CSS which attempts to reduce all the margins and paddings between elements, to see if it works. I don't know much about CSS but I think it may work for you - it does for me when setting the devPixelsPerPx to 1.15.
Code:
#event-grid-tab-box-row, #event-grid-tabbox, .event-grid-tabpanels {
  line-height: 3px !important;
  flex: fit-content !important;
  margin-top: -3px !important;
}

#event-grid > tr > th , td {
  font-style: normal !important;
  font-weight: 600 !important;
  margin-block: 0px !important;
  padding-top: 0px !important;
}

#event-grid-tab-box-row, #event-grid {
  padding-block-start: 0px !important;
  padding-block-end: 0px !important;
  row-gap: 0px !important;
}

#FormatToolbox {
  margin-top: -8px !important;
  margin-bottom: -2px !important;
}

Great. That works for me thanks.
A small part of the bottom is cut off, but it is nothing that I use, so it will do.

Now to sort out the Settings-Fonts & Colours-Advanced problem with nothing appearing in the pop up box.

I tried this thank you, using both your and my settings (1.15 & 1.2), barely made a difference. So I reverted to your solution in post 123. I also quite like that layout when it opens in a new tab.

I don't pretend to understand any of this. I avoid beta and very seldom update "just because". I currently have 102.13.0. So may I assume that I should leave well enough alone for now? A get notices to update daily, and ignore them. I usually update a few weeks after I hear about a "new version". Hence. this 115 is not even shown.
Finally. Whenever I think I need to update, I go online to the web site and choose which one I want. Usually "post beta" or the new approved version.
So is this best for me?
FYI. I just checked TB. It shows I have 102.13.0 and can update to 102.13.1. No mention of 115. When I go online, the web site shows 115 ONLY. No other choice of update. So what the heck is going on? How is a novice or "simple user" supposed to know when or what to update?

There are somewhat advanced ways to see all of the versions of Thunderbird available, and to download an installer of the version you want, but that (Directory Listing: /pub/thunderbird/releases/ > Win64 > en-US or en-GB or en-CA > Thunderbird setup .exe or .msi) is well beyond the "simple user's" scope. The safest and best way for you to update is to use Help > About Thunderbird, and Thunderbird will automatically check for updates and offer the latest public release-channel version to you. You just have to click the button that shows up. Or not.

In order to avoid getting an automatic update before you're ready for it, you might go to Settings in Thunderbird (just Settings; not Account Settings) and choose the General category (in the left panel) and go to the right panel and scroll way down to Updates > Thunderbird Updates, and click the "Check for updates, but let me choose ...." choice.

Version 115 has not yet been added to the release channel, but 102.13.1 has, and that is a perfectly safe download-and-install update if your 102.13.0 version is working the way you want it to. Otherwise, seek help (here or on the official TB Support Forum site Thunderbird Support Forum | Mozilla Support)
to get it right before you update. When 115 is deemed ready for general release (it's being fine-tuned even as we speak), it will show up when you click Help > About Thunderbird. Until then, unless you're feeling adventurous (and millions of users are), just stick with the versions that are offered.

If you have questions I haven't addressed here, please ask them right here. Lots of good people are here, willing to step up and help.

A question for all you TBird aficionados: Have you ever seen a display in the folder pane that showed the number of files/folders and the size?
If so, how in the world did you manage to get that display?

@das10 and anyone else watching/reading this extended thread:

This was my thread, so I don't have any regrets about resurrecting it.

I'd like to color the Menu Bar a little differently from the Unified Toolbar and the tabs, but I haven't come up with the way yet. I would appreciate any help anyone here can offer.

Dan
Off hand I don't think that is possible.

@ltsnow

Well, back on page 2 of this thread, and in post 28 and later in post 48, das10 did a pretty good job of using the dev tools to get to a colored menu bar in a different color from that of the Unified Tool Bar, so I think it can be done, but the variations on the posted CSS codes I've seen aren't working for me.

Thanks for looking back in on this thread, lt.

@ltsnow and @cpupro (I see you looking in on this, and I appreciate it)

So far, I've got this, but I'm still working on it a bit. I think of it as "a work in progress."

Wizewiz, I presume you mean just the color of the menubar (as shown below)?
Currently I presume already have this CSS rule for the menu bar?

Code:
toolbar#toolbar-menubar {
  order: -1 !important;
}

Then, have you tried putting some colors on that bar?
Code:
toolbar#toolbar-menubar {
  order: -1 !important;
  background-color: green !important; /* Color of menu bar */
  color: white !important; /* Color of the text - if needed */
}
pn: note that as it stands, it won't change the color of the menu popups (it is still a WIP for me!).

(You can also use other color values such as rgb values for colors which don't have names or rgba to also add some transparency etc.)

@das10

As always, you’ve shown me what I was missing. I’m going to play with it some more today. And yes, reconfiguring things is always a WIP for me, too.

Sincere thanks for all your support. Again.

I’m running 117.0b3 this morning, and expecting b4 to be posted today or tomorrow. The bug-reporting community has become amazingly large and active. I’m amazed at how much attention a mail client has drawn.
