Hoo-effing-ray! You found the difference! As soon as I unticked the top two, leaving only the Hide labels column checked, my headers on the fouled-up machine cleared up, straightened up and learned to fly right! I now have the one-liner, the bolded subject, and NO stupid (phony) icon on both machines!

Does anyone know a way or CSS code to hide the toolbar in the message header?

Right-click a clear space in the header, choose Customize, and choose Hide Toolbar.

Before you Hide the toolbar, if you click More (Autres), you can simplify the header display by choosing Customize and unchecking everything except Hide labels. That will get rid of the ugly phony icon, too. Then Hide the toolbar.

Unfortunately, right-clicking in an empty space in the Message Header Pane did not bring any menu to me.

Anyway, I found exactly what I was looking for elsewhere.
For those interested on this forum, here is the code to copy in userChrome.css

But I didn't make it clear that you have to r-click an empty space in the header of an open message. Then you will see the menu.

I would like to hide the Outbox folder under Local Folders. I've tried deleting the relevant files from the profile, but TB recreates them. There is no right-click Delete choice. Anybody know how to do it?
I've still got Drafts in my IMAP folders, and that's where outgoing mail that isn't ready to send (yet) goes by default.

I am assuming you are regular & uptodate with your Windows System images! According to the Source shown below, there is some css relating to the Outbox, and modifying it as follow appears to work, although I can't be too sure about any and all permutations.

If it doesn't work, then deleting the above code from userChrome.css does appear to bring back the Outbox, but as I say I can't be too sure.

I image my OS-and-apps drive daily. It only takes 1:29 to get a compressed image of 16.35GB, so I do that every night, and back up my TB 102 and TB 115 profiles as well (about 6-7 seconds each). My "data" drive contains nothing but backup storage, and my external drives hold safe copies of the most recent images and backups. Security, thy name is Wisewiz.

That wasn't bragging, by the way. I'm not especially proud of my (quite ordinary) imaging-backup routine. It's just common sense for an old guy who has everything configured the way he wants it, and doesn't enjoy having to go through all of that again.

It works perfectly! Thanks again. I've experimented with saving the userChrome with and without that script, and switching with TB off, then starting TB with one or the other of them (a quick name-change does it) works exactly as I want it to. I'll check later to see whether I can save drafts to the Outbox file even when it's hidden. I don't know why I'd want to do that, but it will be good to know whether it works or not.

Wisewiz; upon further testing, do you also find that with the aforementioned code, the Outbox is hidden from view and can't be navigated to using the mouse. But, if you use the keyboard arrow keys to navigate up and down through the folders in the Folders list pane, then, when the cursor/highlight transits through where the Outbox would normally be, you can see the contents (if any) of the Outbox.

Using the browser gateway to my server, it’s easy to create new IMAP folders with custom names, and the server will use and sync them, but it still uses its own names for its own synced folders, which is why some servers have a Spam folder that Tbird calls Junk, and Spam and Junk are synced.

I’m corresponding with the developers of Manually-Sort-Folders, and currently using v. 3.2 to test and report. I think the three guys involved will have it ready for public release soon. Account sorting is absent now from it, because that’s natively available in Tbird. New stuff in an Extra Settings tab, too.

Yep. Same for me.
Interestingly, hiding the Outbox with that script line doesn't work in my 102.13. That's no concern to me, because I'm just holding on to (and running) both 102.13 and 115.0.1 until John T Haller (or whoever) posts a Portable 115 (or later) on Portable Apps. Then I'll run it from my apps drive, with the profile folder NOT IN Users\<username> on C:\ but in my Thunderbird Portable folder on my D:\ drive. The portable installation is so much neater than the installer version.
