Tools to check for viruses

I may have been hacked last week. Someone was able to login to my investment account and use Zelle to send money. Nothing shows up in a Malware scan or the Windows tool to look for viruses. Any suggestions on other tools to scan my system?

Have you given anyone remote access to your system? Do you have all your logins and passwords saved in your browsers? Both are big no-nos.

If I even suspected my system had been accessed by someone else, I would wipe that sucker clean and start over, or restore an image made when I knew my system was clean.....right after contacting all my financial institutions and telling them what happened as well as changing my passwords to something extremely difficult and setting up 2 step verification.. Other than that about all you can do is scan with Malwarebytes and change passwords on every account for every site you had stored in your browser. Use passkeys where-ever available. But if you gave someone remote access to your system, you have no way of knowing what they did to your system while they were in it.

Had you had 2 step verification set up with your financial accounts, without your phone, no one can have gotten into that account.

For your investment account:

1. Did you reuse the password? Is it easy to guess? Has it ever been leaked? (Check Have I Been Pwned.)
2. Did you have 2FA? Phone? TOTP?

Like @glasskuter said, the surest way to get rid of malware on your system, especially if it is not showing any signs, is to wipe the system and start over. Besides the one-time scanners (like MalwareBytes, ESET online scanners, etc.), there are also malware removal helpers on other forums.

Your password is still your most important account protection. People say OTP codes (like from email, SMS, or authenticator apps) are "impossible" to hack, but it has been known to happen when the service provider doesn't effectively rate-limit or lock out account hacks. Make sure your passwords are strong and unique.

You don't usually have an issue...until you do. I use a password manager protected by a 22 digit Master password and a passkey. Others here use a 30-40 digit master password. A password manager encrypts my passwords end to end. I store nothing in my browsers and delete cookies and cache twice a day.

Though the OP has not answered back, my old woman's intuition tells me he might have given someone access to his computer. That be the case the fallout can be catastrophic in terms of having to deal with its fallout.

I know Firefox has a Primary Password (Master Password) option. If someone did get into my browser, they wouldn't be able to see my logins without that password. But I don't use it. I'm like you, I delete my history/cache often as well. Not daily, but at least once a week
