browse to program files folder
create a symlink to the exe
name the symlink osk2.exe
move symlink osk2.exe to system32 folder
system32 - take ownership of osk.exe
rename osk.exe to osk.exe.bak (give ownership of original osk.exe back to TrustedInstaller, if you want to)
ren osk2.exe osk.exe

launch onscreen keyboard - numpad emulator will launch

*to auto show upon boot:
Control Panel - Ease of Access Ease of Access Center - Use the Computer Without a Mouse or Keyboard - Use On-Screen Keyboard
Control Panel - Ease of Access Ease of Access Center - Change Sign-In Settings - Type Without the Keyboard - At Sign-In - Check Box
GPedit.msc - Computer Configuration - All Settings - Do Not Display Lock Screen - Enable

yeah opt 2 is the same link to the github/sourceforge download. that one is only a numpad. having a massive keyboard popup for a pin is a moot point lol

Something grandma can one click to install.

Maybe just tell MS about your idea. I think they'll go for it, and do the work for you. ^^

Heck... it's a much better idea than say... RECALL.



Or even better... start your own company. Call it the "Grandma Project". :D



I think sometimes, we get spoiled. We're always discussing new ideas with... "regulars" on these forums.
Regulars already know about symlinks. Grandma... doesn't.

i'll work on a script later. but i cant incorporate the emulator because its not my creation.

i'm currently looking for a way to launch
C:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\ink\TabTip.exe to the numpad layout by default.
if i (or anyone) can find that, i can make a script to do it all easily

If the emulator came from Github... I believe it's "open source".
They usually include the source code as well.


I'm not suggesting you do all this right now.
Take your time. The grandmas of the world don't move that fast anyway. :-)


Also... scripts are too complicated for grandmas.
It needs an installer.

I seem to remember there are universal installers to be found.
You just "drop" whatever you want... into them.
Then you have a one-click affair that will make all the grandmas happy.

And when grandmas are happy... they make cookies! :D

I've never used anything like this, but I remember reading about similar "installer creators", around 20 years ago.
I'm sure you'll have to do some research into these or similar programs.


I've seen many people coming up with great ideas on these forums.
The only thing lacking seems to be a way to create a one-click installer for use on Windows.

It's not an onscreen solution but a few years ago I got a mouse & keypad kit that connects via Bluetooth.

only issue i have left.. if anyone knows offhand:

OSK - launches at startup (replaced with numpad)
OSK - launches at login (the numpad)
OSK - DOES NOT launch when i then lock the PC - i can launch it manually and it works, but will not auto launch upon locking
