As soon as I sign into Windows either a "New Message" notification, or the calendar will appear rendering my touchpad, and touchscreen useless, and *esc*, *tab*, and *ctl+alt+del* the only keyboard functionalities. (see attached)

The problems also occur at times when I've noticed either grey circle like a touch indicator, or a 4-pointed star in the screen's lower right corner. (see attached)

This began happening 2 weeks ago while on Windows 10. A factory reset, and an upgrade to Windows 11 have both been fruitless.

All latest updates have been installed.

I'm not a noob, but I may as well be.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I noticed no one had answered your post. Though I have no touch Windows devices, I thought I'd jump in.

Here is a troubleshooting article from Dell that you can start with. How to Troubleshoot Touch Screen or Touch Panel Issues | Dell US

Since you have already done a reset on 10 and then an upgrade to 11, I would be looking at the drivers listed in this article. The support page for this device lists a number of updated Windows 10 and 11 drivers, updated within the last several months. Go here Support for Inspiron 3583 | Drivers & Downloads | Dell Canada You can specify which OS you want drivers for. You can also click the button to let Dell find all the current drivers for you.

In my opinion you should have made sure everything was working correctly in Windows 10 before you attempted to upgrade to Windows 11 as you have no way of knowing what carried over into 11. You can try the suggestions in the article, but it may require a clean install to work out the issues.

I know it's not a lot of concrete help, but maybe it can lead you to a solution. Good Luck.

I've thought about this a little more. There is another possibility. The screen digitizer could also be the culprit if it is flaky. If that be the case, the screen would have to be replaced to get touch capability back. Is your laptop still in warranty?

Thank you for the reply. No. It's no longer under warranty. I'll read the article you linked now, and let you know how I fared
