i have the hp elitebook 745 and ryzen 3500u laptop. i'm trying to get the usb-c port to work thru a lan and hdmi device. i got the legrand port replicator. and the hdmi is working the usb ports are working but the lan is not working. i have it plugged in and the 10-100 lights are on and flashing but i do not get the tv icon just the wifi icon. if i plug the lan into the pc the wifi turns off and the tv icon shows and the internet speed doubles. i went into the bios and all the usb ports are checked. the bios was updated 5-5-24 but i did not jot the ver. down. anyway because the lan lights are lit that tells me the port replicator is trying to work but for some reason is not.

it is plugged in with a new known good cat6 factory cable and into the same hub for my network that the pc plugs into.

at this time i have been using 3005pr 3.0 port replicator but that seems to be failing as sometime the internet speed is slower that comcast that i had and now i have 5-- up-dn fiber internet. if i plug into the pc i get 513 all day but with the 3005pr i get any number anytime of the day.

so what might i try to get that legrand port replicator to run the lan port? maybe a driver is missing? also troubleshooting did not help. updates seem to be ok.

i would like to get the speed or close to the speed i'm paying for, and like i said i think the legrand is missing a driver for the lan or win11 is missing one. being the usb ports the hdmi are working and the lan port lights are lit and flashing it seems this device is working up to a point/ thanks

ok it seems i may have a pc that will not run the ethernet from the usb-c port. i did have it for a short time then it stopped after a reboot. so i'm just out of ideas. i'm going to go into the bios and do a reset and see if that may help if not then i'm out of ideas.

Some of description of the problem suggests the port replicator may not be providing sufficient power to run the attached devices. I have one Desktop with USB-C and one Notebook with USB-C. They both work with USB-C thumb drives and a 1TB NVMe M.2 drive in a case. I have seen on the Internet where USB-C power may not be as high as the USB3 A-type ports provide so with the 4 drives on my Desktop I have a self-powered USB3 4-port Hub.

that may be the case but i do not know what kind of power supply to try and what voltage the dock may take, the ock i have now is the factory dock a hp 3005pr unit and that one must have a lan port issues as it has different port speeds all the time. sometimes as los a 50mbps. i'm paying for 500 i want it to be close to that. i did get the legrand dock to work for one power cycle today and then it stopped working.

I faced a similar issue few years back on GB Aorus MB. not on usb c, but usb 2 specific 3.2 port on mb. Turns out all other ports (usb3.1, usb3.0, usb2) ports were using standard drivers. But these two usb 3.2s were using proprietary drivers. But when I installed windows, everything was auto-detected (usb 3.2 were identified wrongly as some standard ones). So, I had to manually uninstall those drivers, then use the proprietary drivers from GB Aorus site.
Another issue was - everytime the system restsarts it again used to auto detect the wrong drivers. So until I manually and explicity installed these proprietary drivers, I was not able to get the 3.2 speeds. It used to work at USB 2 speeds

thanks i'm starting to thik this laptop usb-c port may have an issue. today i spent connecting a ea7500 linksys router to the frontier modem and that gave me fits, but that router may have issues as i tried a few years ago hooking it up to my network with comcast and it just would not connect. i did have good luck with i set in bridge mode and connected to the eero routes but my internet speed was all over the place. so fo now i'm going to leave that out of the system and see if the speed holds better. if not then i will rebridge it as i got more wifi range with that than i do with the eero routers.
