Does this article help? It's not a fix but a workaround. I haven't tried it myself so can't attest that it works.
How on earth turn off address bar searching on edge?

For dot com domains you can just type the domain name without extension and then press CTRL+ENTER

Can you give an example of the type of searches you are doing?
