U.S. DOJ files proposal to recommend Google breakup by selling Chrome and Android

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and several U.S. states filed a set of proposed remedies in US v. Google late Wednesday, barely meeting the judge’s November 20 filing date. As rumored, the federal agency recommended that Google be forced to divest itself of its Chrome web browser to deprive the company of the primary distribution point of its antitrust abuses in Search and online advertising.

But the DOJ’s (and states’) recommendations go well beyond that.

The Department also recommends that Google be forced to divest itself of Android or make major behavior changes that prevent it from abusing its mobile OS; halt exclusionary agreements with Apple, Samsung, and others; allow third parties to access its search results and other data; make major changes to its advertising business; and make other changes.

Edge hardly has a monopoly even with it being bundled into Windows. On the same note what about Apple with Safari?

The truth is that it is Google's time, and DOJ wants to ensure the end of Google's search monopoly. I am not fully convinced how detaching Chrome will curtail Google's search monopoly.

If we look at Edge, we all know it is not a market monopoly. Even hardcore Microsoft fans use Chrome or Firefox.

I'm totally not seeing how Google is a monopoly. We don't have to use it if we don't want too. If someone uses the default MS browser Edge, Does Edge default to using Google as the default search engine? As far I know it doesn't.

I'm totally not seeing how Google is a monopoly. We don't have to use it if we don't want too. If someone uses the default MS browser Edge, Does Edge default to using Google as the default search engine? As far I know it doesn't.

In the U.S., a 'monopoly' is a megacorporation that has become, or is about to become, more powerful than the U.S. government. As long as that condition is not met, there is no monopoly.

I'm not saying your wrong but I've done a few searches and I can't find anything that backs that up. I'm going to do some more searching to see if I can find anything. I did find articles about Google dominating the search engine market. I don't see how because Google does have competition for their search engine and browser.
