Unable to install windows 11 on a new PC

I have a new PC, and it has a Gen 14 Intel and a MSI MPG Z890 Edge Ti WIFI Intel LGA 1851 ATX Motherboard

It was delivered with no OS as I have an unused WIN11 Pro install CD, with activation code etc.

I have gone to the Microsoft web site and downloaded the latest Win 11 Pro onto a USB stick.

On turning on the new PC, the PC boots into its BIOS. In there I can set my boot media as USB. I insert the USB with the boot instructions etc from Microsoft
Win11_24H2_EnglishInternational_x64.iso 5,6954,02KB.

This is where it all goes wrong. The PC reboots and shows the same BIOS screen, but no attempt to read from the USB is observed. So I am left with the same initial BIOS screen.

The BIOS shows as a "MSI CLICK BIOS", something I have not seen before

I have used 3 different USB sticks, none of which work.

What can I be doing wrong?

Please explain, in details, how did you build the Win 11 USB installation drive.
Did you downloaded a iso file and copied to the USB drive or did you use MCT to build it?

On BIOS it can have a option to don't allow booting from USB. Make sure USB booting is allowed.
Boot the PC with the Win 11 USB installation drive on a USB port.
During POST, press F12 to launch the boot menu. The Win 11 USB drive should be an option. If it shows two USB options, select the one that is UEFI.

please try burning the Windows 11 ISO to the USB stick using Rufus.

or use Microsoft's Media Creation tool

then try booting from the USB stick to install Windows.

Did you copy the ISO to the USB drive(s), or its contents?

Some (most?) motherboards require that a bootable USB drive be formatted as FAT32. Copying the contents of an ISO to a FAT32 drive may pose a problem if the ISO includes an install.wim that is larger than 4GB. (I use DISM to split the file into two sections, neither larger than 4GB.)

Megahertz, I used Windows Media Creation Tool (MCT) to create the boot USB stick, but I think something is wrong with this. I watched a couple of videos in which I was shown things like which drive to create the boot USB, etc, but I didn't get that with MCT. Perhaps MCT decided there was only one writable device and just used that?????

XxXxX, I will look at Rufus. I have used it in the past and I think I can get it to run.

Have you tried turning off secure boot option in bios?
did you use rufus to create a bootable usb ro MCT?

You appear to have tried several methods to make a bootable USB drive, including MCT. I find your story confusing.

You can check the contents of the drive on a different PC. It should resemble this:



(This is actually a view of a mounted ISO, but the USB installer should look the same.)

My personal preference would be to use the F11 hotkey to choose the startup device, rather than changing the BIOS settings. (I checked: that's the key for your MSI motherboard.)

Rufus is a very useful tool to install Win 11 on unsupported computer. It's not your case. Best choice for you is MCT.
What MCT does is to format the USB drive as Fat32, set the partition as active and copy all installation files and folders to it.
As you said you build the Win 11 USB installation drive with MCT I would say that the boot problem is on BIOS settings or the way you try to boot it.
You said you selected the USB drive to be the first on the priority list. Did you selected as Legacy or UEFI?
The best way to boot a USB drive is to launch the boot menu (F12) during POST, just after power on.
Did you try it?

Insert the Win 11 USB installation drive on another computer and post a whole window Disk Manager image of ALL your drives. Don't forget to expand the columns so we can read them. How to Post a Screenshot of Disk Management
If you have a MiniTool or AOMEI Partition use it instead or Windows disk manager.


As I wrote before, you must allow the computer to boot from a USB drive as UEFI.

I found the source of the problem, using all your hints. I thought MCT made a bootable USB, when in fact MCT gave me a USB with all the necessary files, but not bootable. So, as recommended I used RUFUS, and once I had a bootable USB all went smoothly.
