Unable to open images copied over from phone to flashdrive.

Hello.

I was helping my mother in law back up her images from her mobile to a USB flashdrive. The images was copied over but when we double click to open the image we are receiving the following message.

Any support to try and resolve this would be amazing and appreciated as these are her holiday photos. The laptop is on Windows 11 and is all upto date, we have also reset and clicked repair photos in the settings for the photos application.

please try right clicking the image and on that menu chose 'open with'
then click Edge browser and see if the image opens up in the browser

that is just to check to see if the image is uncorrupted.

I have opened this in Edge browser but I'm getting a tiny square in the middle of the screen

I assume you are trying to view it on a Windows 11 device? If so then try installing Irfanview Graphic Viewer and then 'Open with' Irfanview. It's free so won't cost anything to try it out. You can always uninstall it if it doesn't work.
You may have to install the Irfanview Plugins as well.

I have tried this and when it opens its showing a pink square.

Its weird how very few are un affected.

I didn't know this was a thing?

When it initially copied over to the flashdrive I could see the images as thumbnails but now nothing?

There are 2 albums left which are fine the rest for some reason have gone, I have checked the recycle bin and nothing there.

It's strange as it said copying not moving so I would assume they should have remained on the device.

I run into a similar problem. saved photos (*.jpg) from my phone then some of them couldn't open using Windows photo viewer. got error message.

Later, I tried Paint.exe. paint can open those photos Windows photo viewer couldn't.

I've encountered a similar situation in the past.
I thought I was copying the files, but only the file names were copied. Therefore, I recommend checking the file sizes as well.
I used to use a USB cable for file transfers at past.
Now I use the FTP protocol when transferring files from my phone to my computer. This way, I can also track whether the copying process was successful.

That would be great if someone could give instructions to how this is done. I also have an iphone so Samsung tech is a mystery LOL

I use Xiaomi File Manager on my android phone to open my phone's storage (you can open local storage or sdcard) as a FTP server, you have to allow full file access to app, I dont trust it so I only allow it when file transfering.
And you need a FTP client on your Computer, I use FileZilla. You have to define your host and port number on FileZilla. Then click Connect. That's it.
You can find maybe better alternatives beside Xiaomi File Manager if you search. I am lazy about it.
