Uninstallation Of Onedrive Business Does Not Stop Sync

Both my desktop machine & laptop are Windows 11 Pro and up to date. I just installed Onedrive for Business a couple days ago and discovered it has the dubious behavior of forcing you to sync your desktop and offers absolutely no way to not sync the desktop. Because of this, I now have shortcuts on each desktop that do not point to anything on whichever machine I happen to be using. I then added a couple folders to sync that have my work files and while they sync ok, if you choose to no longer sync anything you previously chose to sync, it will stop syncing but then you cannot even see the folder on the machine that it originally existed in.

Needless to say, Onedrive is not the thing for me so, I chose to unlink the machine, then I uninstalled Ondrive and rebooted. I now cannot delete any file / folder from the Desktop folder that exists in the Onedrive folder without it deleting what is on the actual desktop of both machines. It is almost as if Microsoft forced the creation of this folder as a sybolic link or a hard junction but, running DIR /AL /s c:\ from the root does not show the Onedrive folder as being either although there are many junctions that are created when installing Windows.

Are there registry entries to change to stop this? How can I remove the folder & files that Microsoft created when I installed Onedrive for Business?

What you're describing is the "Known Folder Move" feature in the Onedrive Windows client. You can turn it on and off using the "Manage backup" button in the Backup tab of the Onedrive app's settings, but if you already tried that and weren't able to turn it off then it sounds like your organization turned on the policy that enables it automatically and prevents users from being able to turn it off themselves. So, the OneDrive business does the same as the OneDrive personal. But if you install OD personal first, and allow it to share the desktop, Documents and Pictures, then the business one will not be able to share - and that should persist even if you simply close OneDrive personal and don't allow it to start.

In personal, I am able to allow or disallow automatic backups for all 3 locations. In Business, though, they are still locked out, until I stop sharing all three in personal.

FWIW, though, I have OneDrive installed, logged in to my personal account first, and then to my Business account by way of the Add account button on the Account tab in Settings. So it is the same app running once for personal and once for business.
