Today for the first time, I noticed this cryptic entry in the System Restore panel:

Copied that numerical entry and searched my registry. Found just this:

Anybody know what this entry is? (It sure isn't a drive or disk.)

The generation property would suggest a VM, virtual disk or WSL disk
G1 is typically VHD vs vhdx

Yeah, I should have known it from the very start
That System Restore would break my heart
Now listen people what I'm telling you
That System Restore will make you blue yeah

System Restore likes to run aground
It'll work for you then it'll let you down
Now people let me put you wise
System Restore will make you cry

Here's the moral of the story from the guy who knows
System Restore will bring you woes
Ask any fool who's used it before, they'll say
You keep away from that System Restore.

Not useful maybe but they show up in the list during creating a backup with Macrium and in Advanced View in optimise drives.

I was able to reproduce. Windows will assign the name of \\?\Volume{GUID} for a volume with no name and no assigned letter. So that device should show up under disk management. I reproduced by attaching a VHD

I think they're virtual drives used by the XBox app - it uses them for running games. I have some on my pc.

Brian, I've got no XBox stuff on my machines. Removed it all on the very first day for each machine. No games of any sort.

Just too old and tired for computer games, I guess.
