Installation and Upgrade Upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10 with Windows 11 Installation Assistant

This was the method I used to install Windows 11. Installation went without a hitch and all apps and files were still present. So far, I haven't had any issues.
Brink, I'd like to thank you for all your work with the tutorials. They make it much easier to tweak the system to the way I like it, especially compared to trying to find where various settings got moved to and trying to follow Microsoft's help instructions.

Hello Shawn I have the upgrade update today in my settings and want to just make sure of two things before I go ahead with the upgrade which I shall leave for just a little while just to make sure everything is up and running as it should be.
But I have seen somewhere that it is advisable to disable the current security suite while upgrading to Windows 11 plus I seem to remember doing something with the Secure Boot settings in the BIOS. Is this right or not??

Hello John,

Secure Boot is now required for Windows 11, so you do not want to disable it.

If you have a 3rd party AV program installed, it may still be a good idea to temporarily disable or uninstall it until after you have finished upgrading.

Just to say, I upgraded my Win 10 to 11 in the Beta program, left the insider program before the 5th everything worked absolutely fine. When I did the upgrade I did have Norton Security running all the way through and it gave me no problems. I am on build 22000.194 Do you know if that is the same buils that is being released to the public? as I have had no updates as yet to check.

Correct. 22000.194 is the public release build.

Oh yes. It's easy to enable secure boot.

Thanks Shawn the secure boot is set to enable and my security suite is easy enough to disable as I don't want to uninstall it as I have it on all my machines and was daft enough not to note which licence is the one for the compatible machine

Thanks for providing installation steps using Windows 11 Installation Assistant.

I was wondering if those manual clicking steps could be automated using any script ? No users intervention and eligible Windows 10 machines gets automatically upgraded to Windows 11.

Final question is that whether any Windows 11 popups\notifications are send out by Microsoft on eligible machines ?

Hello,

I'm not aware of a way to automate it.

Usually, you will see if your PC supports W11 via a message in Windows Update.

Hello Shawn I got the official update to Windows 11 this morning via an update but decided to stay with 10 for the time being and now when I check updates that option is gone so will it be offered again??

Hello John,

Possibly, but if not, you can always use the Windows 11 installation assistant to upgrade.

A lot have problems unless you right click on the downloaded assistant and choose run as admin

Usually, you should be prompted by UAC to run as administrator.

I was offered yesterday (18 May, 2022) to upgrade from W10 Home 21H2 19044-1706 to W11 Home 21H2 22000-675 and it installed perfectly in 4 hours. I have a lot of old 32 bit programs like Office 2010, Adobe prof 8,1 and Outlook 2013 (standalone) and all my files and programs (including the jump lists) were preserved, no Event errors, fast startup, exactly the way and the desktop I had Windows10 2 days ago. I have been running W11 today without any hick-ups. I am impressed with this new platform: 1 GB less memory used and finally I can read File Explorer properly (in W10 fonts too small even after tweaking the size of everything).
