I get error messages "USB device not able to transfer files" and "Connected for charging only" when connecting Android phone to PC.

I have Win11 25H2. Version 10.0.26200.7171.

Product ID 00355-61678-59754-AAOEM
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display

Version 25H2
Installed on ‎11/‎9/‎2025
OS build 26200.7171

The phone is a Samsung Galaxy S22. I am able to connect to 2 other Win11 PCs and file transfer is functional on both of my other PCs.

Any help? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your response, FreeBooter.

I have looked in the Settings for the Samsung Galaxy, in the Connections and Connected Devices, as well as searching for "access" and "permissions" but could not find a setting to give the PC access permission on the Samsung.

How to do this?

I think you should check the Security Center settings on your phone.

Looks like Android might have made some changes during a recent update because I was having similar experience. After you connect the phone, you need to go into (phone) USB settings and change the default option from charging to transfer files

AFAIK this has to be (re)done every time and this "new" procedure replaces to permissions option mentioned above.

Thanks for your suggestions Idgat. I found the settings page you referred to, but I was unable to change the setting from charging only to file transffer. All the other choices were grayed out.

If you add developer options, you can change default back to what it was.

Thanks for the suggestion, Cereberus.

I enabled the developer options, but the other choices were still grayed out, even after restarting.

Is there a specific setting that I might be missing?

I think I'm going to call Verizon support and see what they have to say.

On your Phone, USB settings > USB controlled by > This Device.

If you select Connected device the 'Use USB for' options are greyed out.

When I connect my phone(S25 Android 16)to my PC it pops up the same message but I also get a notification icon on the top bar. I simply swipe down for the full menu then select how I want the phone to connect.

I'm a computer enthusiast so have quite a few systems that I run. More like an advanced hobby.

Is the phone connected when this is greyed out?

Thanks for your suggestion, Helmut. That appears to have worked... the default config choices were not grayed out, and I was able to change it to TRANSFER FILES. I will test this out tomorrow.
