Solved ...used boot stick with Rufus (settings for unsuported HW) on supported HW

today i wanted to perform a clean instal on my brand new used 'DELL OptiPlex 7070 micro i5-9500T'. Few weeks ago i created a bootable boot stick with RUFUS for my two old laptops (unsuported hardware: MSI GT72/i7-5700 and MSI GE60/i7-4710). Unfortunately i just accidentally installed W11 Pro/24H2 on my DELL using this boot stick: it contains typical settings for unsupported hardware...

My question is:
can i keep this installation on my DELL ...?
Or should i perform an another clean instal without RUFUS ...?

You don't need to perform another install. All that Rufus does, is to write a hidden unattended file on the USB drive. This unattended file adds a few reg keys during the WinPE pass, which instruct the Setup program to bypass the HW requirement checks.

The actual installed Windows image is the same for everyone, regardless of whether you used a bypass to trick Setup into starting the install or not. For a fully supported system, it makes zero difference in what you get.

i would keep the Rufus install because anything that has been changed on the install USB with Rufus can be easily undone within the system when its up and running.
the idea with Rufus is to get the operating system installed on some unsupported hardware
but all the settings can be changed to suit the user once installed.

If you have created the USB with the default settings in Rufus, it is a GPT for UEFI mode. So all it did was to bypass compatibility check. This doesn't affect the installed features or security or compatibility. In simple words, it won't make any change if you reinstall using a non-patched USB. Just keep it and install all updates.

Bypassing the Windows 11 requirements is harmless. In fact, I use unattended setup to install Windows, and I leave the bypasses in place even on hardware that is fully compliant because it has zero effect on those systems. Let me explain why this is the case...

When you are bypassing the Windows 11 requirements, what you are doing is setting registry settings that Windows setup checks. But this is the key: Those registry settings that you are changing effect Windows PE in setup only. They are NOT written to the final Windows installation. In fact, during Windows installation those registry settings will disappear at the first reboot during setup because that information existed only in the temporary RAM disk that setup creates. So, the bottom line is that they are safe to use even with systems that are fully Windows 11 compliant.

Even if you do a Legacy BIOS installation on a compliant system you lose nothing of compatibility and performance. The only difference would be that you cannot use Secure Boot with a Legacy installation. For old systems that you cannot update the certificates you have to disable Secure Boot anyway to be able to boot.
