Can you position gadgets on a secondary monitor, or do they have to appear on the primary monitor?
I have the weather app on my second monitor.

IMHO, MS took a decent weather app and ruined by bloating it up and adding kiddie cartoon weather maps.
In Worshington they've said that Windows 12 lets you add a kiddie cartoon to weather maps only if you have touchscreen. :D

One thing I thought was maddening was the 1st few times I tried to move a Word document from MS Word to "Documents" using the "Save As" feature. That has ALWAYS been a very basic and simple task, till I got W11, and discovered my saved documents were disappearing. I had no clue where those saved documents were going to. Eventually I discovered W11 had more than one "Document" location and they were totally independent of each other. They were all called the same thing but they weren't the same thing.
Dumbest trick I've seen MS do. I finally had to wade through File Explorer and find how many "My Document" locations there were and figure out which one or ones were hiding the Word documents I'd been trying to save and which ones were still empty.
I finally ended up deleting the ones that that were causing the confusion.
Thank you Microsoft, that was a lot of fun.

Oh BTW, I had to wade through that mess with 2 computers, but not with my 3rd one........the 3rd one is W10......no tricks, no confusion.

Desktop, Locally Stored, One Drive, Users > my name, Users > Public, like maybe 6 different locations around File explorer, not sure now. The files were all called just "Documents" but when I'd save a "Word Document" with "Save As", it was anybody's guess as to where it would go. I've been using MS Word for years and never had any problems like that. None.

As I recall, I think I read something later where some of those were supposed to be PRIVATE Documents and others were not. But there was nothing about the name "Documents" to differentiate one file from the others, and trying to set MS Word to use just one and ignore the others didn't work well either. Also One Drive just added to the confusion.
Like I said, I've used MS Word and W7 and W10 for years with no problems like that. In fact I still have a W10 laptop and it has never had any problems like that. Just W11.

It really is that simple. I've used OneDrive for years and love it. It isn't rocket science. If I can understand how it works, anyone can.

C:\Users\<user name>\Documents
* is local and only local.

C:\Users\<user name>\OneDrive\Documents
* is BOTH local AND mirrored in real-time in cloud OneDrive.

The location for My Docs in Windows xx has gotten so confusing, that I just went into Open Revolt mode.
I've taken all my data files Out of Windows and I now store them in five folders that I keep on the Storage partition. "D:" on my SSD.
That not only makes access easier, it also makes doing data backup one heck of a lot easier.
I have shortcuts to those five data folders, on my desktop, so quick access is always just one click away.
I only wish I had developed that Quick Access system, 20 years ago.

I just use a Batch File, and XCOPY to back up my five data folders to an external USB drive. On first run, it backed up every file, and took a few minutes, but on subsequent runs, it only backs up files that are new or have been changed since the last backup. XCOPY is very flexible, to to things like that. I've used it for years, to do my backups, and I love how fast it is.... I just click on my batch file, which I keep in a desktop folder, and in a few seconds by backup is done.
* For those unfamiliar with XCOPY, it's a holdover from the DOS days, and is still a part of Windows, all versions. Interested? Look it up!

I never have to wonder, "now where did Windows put that file?"
OH, and I never let my browsers or Internet Download Manager, put anything in the Download folder, which I never seem to be able to find. I put all downloads on my Desktop, then I can decide what to do with them. That just makes life with Windows a little bit easier.
And, those of you who are 80 yrs old, or better, know what I'm talking about. Eh? Simple'er is Better'er.;-)

Cheers mates, K.I.S.S.!
TM

Installed programs should never have been allowed to put anything in the Documents folder. The Documents folder should have been reserved for user files only. Since the Documents folder is so full of garbage I never use it for my own files. I try to put all my own files in folders on my 2nd drive. Note I do create a lot of things on my desktop but they eventually get moved to folders on my 2nd drive.

I'm curious what installed programs you have that put things in the Documents folder? I don't have any that do that.

My local Documents folder is always empty.

My OneDrive/Documents folder has dozens of subfolders that contain only what I put there.

@MisterEd Thanks for the information!

I only install two items on your list. Adobe Photographer, and Microsoft PowerToys. Neither one installs anything to <username>/Documents.

However, both install a subdirectory under <username>/OneDrive/Documents. The information in these subdirectories is required for how I use each application and is automatically backed up, as I would want, since they are in the OneDrive folder. I'm definitely OK with this behavior.
