User Interface (two years later)

For the most part, it's okay..., there's still a few things I don't care for, but..., it's growin on me!
For me, StartAllBack has helped. If a third party can make the changes we want I don't see why MS can't do it.

How do feel two-three years later about Windows 11?
It's never bothered me from the beginning, and thus why I never tried to tweak it to look like something else.

Anyway, I'm sure the detractors will be flying in like a moth to flame with this thread, so....

In Windows 11 they removed the option to hide the ribbon on Paint. That is really annoying on a small screen like you have on a laptop. I installed the Paint from Windows 10. Now I have both versions of Paint.

In general, W11 is fine, but it is a bit irritating when it takes two mouse clicks to do what could be done in one before.

Like all the Windows OS's since 95 for me, Change can be hard. For some, it's just another day. For others. OMG!! Not Again!! I was just on the other side of the fence and got used to it sooner then latter. But there were some thing I needed to change. So the only changes I made to 11 are. I Added Start 11, Classic Context Menu, Old Task Manager and Classic Paint thanks to MisterEd. "Thank You Again" Now 11 is workable for me. Explorer I can get used to as well. As a side note. My main system and my laptop are running Tiny11 "And I Love The Change In Performance."

I consider that annoying as well. When we left-click the date and time it should show us settings for each. Yes we can right-click it and make changes but one left click giving us nothing is silly. :geek:

I should point out that I have all notifications turned off.
By default, ExplorerPatcher makes left-clicking on the clock show the Windows 10 flyout in lieu of the Windows 11 flyout. I keep a fairly long list of silly annoyances like this. The reason I'm not bothered by any of them is, I keep an equally long list of customizations and tweaks to make them go away. As an example, while it is true that the line spacing in File Explorer can be customized by enabling Compact View (in Options) this setting has no effect on the line spacing of the nav pane so I use the Classic Explorer feature of Open-Shell for that. As another example, I also use this same feature to prevent the expand/collapse chevron signs in the nav pane from fading automatically. I have also disabled tabs in File Explorer because they just take up extra space for nothing when it is possible to just use the "Alt + key above tab" function of Simple Window Switcher (feature of ExplorerPatcher) to switch to a different window of the same app (File Explorer in this instance).

The main reason I took a career in IT is because I've always been fascinated by bent logic. I mean, silly software/OS causes more problems, and I solve problems for a living so... what's not to love about Windows 11 then?

Windows 11 for me is just fine. I interchange between some Windows 10 and some Windows 11 on a daily basis, and I barely notice which one I am on. I don't really care much for the cut/copy/paste icons on the right click menu, but it is what it is. I too am not the type to run 3rd party tweak tools to try to make it look as it did before. I just gradually adjust to it.

Mini PC used for testing Windows 11.
Unlike some previous MS offerings, I see Win-11 as a big ball of modeling clay. I can easily make it into what I want it to be. And, I have done exactly that!
I remember the first time I installed Win-11/Pro/64. I saw that big blue thingy in the middle of the desktop, and thought to myself "who's weird idea was that?" Well, within five minutes that was gone and the taskbar icons were back on the left side, where they belong. Some changes are OK, but changes for the sake of Changes, are stupid and very inconsiderate. Win-11 is very customizable, within the OS itself, without adding a lot of outside software. However I do like the ability to tweak it beyond it's internal settings, with OpenShell, (replaces the old Classic Shell) which I've been using since day one.
I could be wrong, of course, but on my own PC's, Win-11, properly tweaked and tuned, seems to run faster than previous OS's that I've run. I'm constantly amazed that such a HUGE OS, can run so fast. It's kind of like an elephant that can run 70 mph.
On this old and totally incompatible PC, Win-11 boots up FAST, and shuts down in ~5 sec's. I've not timed my boot time with a stop watch, but I've been at this stuff long enough that I do know FAST!
To quote an old saying, "it's a keeper!"
It's really unfortunate, that out of my 13 computers, only six of them will run a 64 bit OS. And those six are all running Windows 11/Pro/64 today.

Exactly. It is what it is, and, as a result of this fact, it lets people decide for theirself on whether they want to learn how it can be possible to make that annoyance go away while not requring to use any 3rd party tweak tools to make it go away.

Unlike some previous MS offerings, I see Win-11 as a big ball of modeling clay.

Can you position gadgets on a secondary monitor, or do they have to appear on the primary monitor?
You can drag gadgets over to the 2nd display. If you disconnect the 2nd display the gadgets return to the primary display.
On the left is the primary display and to the right is the 2nd display. The primary display has one gadget while the 2nd display has two.

Are programs like Start 11 and Classic Context Menu ever affected by Windows updates, etc?

A couple changes just for the sake of change that I dislike is the right click menu changes and the task bar changes. In some cases they actually added a step instead of getting easier or quicker. Just MS nonsense. Change just for the sake of change, but not for the better.
Two things you can do about Right Click: hold down Shift as you Right Click or there is a registry fix. I use the shift key.
I fixed the task bar and start menu by using Start11. It is a small cost but IMHO it's worth it.
Start11 is sometimes bothered by MS changes but rebooting usually fixes things and Stardock issues frequent updates. I like the taskbar clock showing seconds. This is a setting in Start11.

Two things you can do about Right Click: hold down Shift as you Right Click or there is a registry fix. I use the shift key.
Shift + right-click opens what is known as the Extended context menu. The regular (non Shift) context menu has fewer options than it. (Even, after you use the registry fix.) So with the default context menu of Windows 11 the annoyance is not the fact that it has fewer options compared to Windows 10. Rather, it is the fact that options are simply too few causing the user to end up clicking on 'More options...' and/or reaching for the Shift key (much) more frequently than really should be necessary, which kills productivity more, especially due to the repetitive nature that amplifies this negative effect, and leads to the kind of frustrations that ultimately contribute to mental illness, depression, burn-out. To those who like to invest money in Big Pharma, it is an improvement no doubt. To those who have to explain it to their boss why these days it is taking so much longer to get the same-old work done, not so much.

My taskbar height measures only 46 pixels high, using a 4k TV. Yours is twice as big so it is way too distracting for me to be able to focus on workflow, and takes up too much screen estate for nothing. My clock also shows seconds, but does so in a noticeably less distracting manner, due to the font color being so much less bright compared to that bright white you've got there.
