As far as I can tell, that isn't the sort of error message you'd get if you tried to run an installer from an account that lacked permissions.

I'd hope that if you have some sort of security software that was blocking the install, it'd give you a more obvious error message.

A semi-random suggestion: try running the installer with admin privileges. (Right click on the .exe.)

I think it's related to permissions. Possibly some file corruption in your user account. You can prove it quickly by creating a new local account. Give it administrator privileges. Restart your computer and log in to the new account to see if problem persists.

Here's the step by step if you need it.
Settings>Accounts>Scroll down and click on Other Users.
Select add account>select I don't have this person's signin information

This will let you create a local account

In user name box name the account and assign a password.
Very Important- Make the new user an administrator. Once account is created, to the right of the new user name click down arrow. Select Change account type.
Click arrow to right of standard user and select Administrator.

Restart . On signin screen you will see 2 accounts. Select the NEW LOCAL ACCOUNT name and it will ask you to set up a password and password hints. Also answer all the other setup option questions.
Your new desktop will be created.

If the issue does NOT happen in this new account, it points to corruption in Your account rather than a windows problem. If it DOES happen in this new account , the issue is elsewhere. You can log out of the account, log back into your account, and delete the new account you created.

If the problem is a corrupted user account, report back and we can tell you how to get your files into the new account in the correct way

What are all the possibilities of what that telling us. All the files got corrupted some how?

Another computer, another account, another dvd drive, another OS, same files. So it points to the files.

If you're doing it from a commercial DVD, the only file corruption would be due to physical damage (scratches, fingerprints) to the disk.

As stated, the disc may be smudged, scratched, or a hairline crack.
You can copy the contents of the Optical Disc to a folder on your HDD.
Browse the folder to sldM.exe right click it and Run As Administrator. and see if that works.

Download WinCDEmu install it and make an ISO of the DVD.
If it is really damaged, the ISO may not complete.
WinCDEmu is a free program available from Github.

To create an ISO image using WinCDEmu, do the following:

Insert the disc you want to convert into an ISO, into the optical drive (DVD tray).
Open the "File Explorer"
Right-click at the DVD drive letter and select "Create ISO image"
Select a file name for the image. This is similar to saving a newly created document or a picture
Press "Save".
Wait until the image creation completes
Once the image is created, you can eject the actual disc and mount the image (ISO) every time you need it. Double click on the ISO or right click and select Mount.
- Mounting an image (ISO) is like having a DVD drive, when you double click on the resulting ISO, it creates a new Drive letter and all the contents of the DVD will be in that drive letter like a DVD.
Click on the new drive letter right click on “Setup.exe” (or setup) and select “Run as administrator”

When you are finished with it, you just right click on that drive image (new drive letter) and “Eject” the image/drive and the drive letter disappears (Like removing a DVD)

Yes there is. All you had to say is that the executable seems to be located on a remote PC instead of being located locally then instruct them how to move the file to a external drive.

Being on a DVD it's very Possible. Can you download the .exe file to another source such as a HDD or a USB Flash drive?

Sorry folks, I was away with family things...

Can I just say, my files are not on a DVD, they are digital files... I will attach a screen saver of the "This PC" part of my PC. I hope that can tell more educated people what might be going on. When I try an install a program it comes up as a DVD Drive on the "This PC" page.... but there is no DVD.

I've just tried to re-install my Windows Office and it's stopped half way through the process. You will see a DVD Drive for Windows Office, but there is no DVD.

You are mounting ISO images. As I described in post #28.
You should, in practice. Just click on that drive and inside it run the install executable. Usually "Setup"

You double cloicked on what you called a “Digital File”? for solidworks?
Can you give is a screenshot of the folder content on what you did that for?

I’d like to see the folder that contains both files, solidfiles and the folder content of the Office program. (not the DVD drives in this image, but the original folders you started with where the programs are)

I believe you are running ISO images. If you right click on that j: drive and select “Eject” it will disappear, same with the Office.

As I mentioned… ISO images.

Anyway, the bottom line is, you’re mounting ISO images (Solid/Office) and that creates the DVD drive you see.

As per the error in your first post, Windows is not letting you access the Mounted ISO.
I don’t know how to fix that, someone else might.

Where did you get Solidworks and Office from? It would seem odd that they are ISO/Image files.
Perhaps your security is preventing it, if so, I’d be interested to know why.
Are these legitimately owned softwares?
