Solved Very slow boot up to Windows but boots normally when taking out the internal battery

Hi,

A few days ago, my Lenovo Thinkpad T14 Gen5 machine worked normal but a couple of days ago I powered it on and it was trying to boot to Windows at the Lenovo logo screen and after 5 minutes it finally got to the Windows login screen.

There were no hardware changes at all i even bios is updated. Did the hard reset hole underneath the laptop and even purchased a new SSD. Tried everything. It even froze up when I attempted to boot from my Windows USB flash drive. Just loading and doing nothing for half an hour.

Then this morning I took out the internal battery plugging the charger and seems to work or boot normally now.

However, after booting into the desktop a pop-up message appeared that the battery is not detected.

My judgment is maybe a hardware problem but what else should I check or do?

Also ran hardware diagnostics but all passed.

I'll try and take it to a service center have them dig into this.

In the meantime can anyone ideas or suggestions?

Even reinstalled Windows without any lagging or freezes while using the laptop without the battery.

I'm not a laptop guy, but if by internal battery you mean the big laptop battery, then I'd guess it's dead or dying.
In other words... time for a new one.

I mean if the laptop works fine on the charger, but doesn't work properly on the battery... I'd say the battery is the culprit. :-)

You should be able to check the battery with a multimeter.




You'll need to double check the part number, but this one is half the price of the one at the Lenovo site...

OK, but strange.

Why would a failing battery would impact the very slowness of the booting process and I bought the laptop 6 months ago from a 3rd party computer center shop brand new fresh from the original Lenovo box.

Just about any talented computer shop could wrap up a computer in an original box. ^^
Unless you buy it straight from Lenovo... you can't really know for sure, if it's brand new.

The symptoms you have suggest that the battery is at fault.
I guess it could also be the charging "circuit" inside the laptop.

Charging circuit? So maybe a motherboard replacement...Shocking. because this is a new laptop...

Anyways, I'm going to the service center.

Personally, I think it's the battery. Like 95% chance.
The other 5% may be the charging circuit itself.

I have never worked on a laptop, that didn’t function normal with a functional charger connected. Even with or without a complete dead battery.

who maybe able to help in either battery replacement or laptop replacement.

Just another follow up here.

It turned out to be the battery.
Changed battery and all is ok 👍

This. OP says replacing the battery solved the issue, but IMO it was probably a windows problem. Batteries just don't suddenly stop working overnight.

With that being said, maybe a corrupt driver?

Maybe I'm thinking to disable driver updates that gets installed along with the Windows Quality Updates using Group Policy or something.

I even find it strange that a dying battery would be the root cause of extreme slow boot times.

Anyways, it's working now.

IT is quite strange that a bad battery would cause slow boot times, but I guess anything is possible when it comes to tech. Probably caused some really obscure bug to rear its head.
